And yes, I intended for the title to be totally capitalized, and have multiple exclamation points, because I am that pissed!
*(I see that the full capitalization and multiple exclamation points are automatically removed. Trust me, they were there when I typed this out!!!)

As I have watched the neighborhood go into decline these past few years, one of the things I've being concerned about has been theft. Well, today I go out to use my truck, and someone had stolen the headlight surrounds off it, mounting screws and all. WTF? It's a 29 year old Dodge pickup, for crying out loud! Who the hell steals parts off of those?

Can't imagine what the hell I'll be dealing with when the TJ gets parked on the street. Actually, it may have to stay in the garage. Coming out to find the Warn winch gone would push me over the edge...

Wow, that's probably the last thing I would expect to get stolen.

Needless to say I wouldn't be parking your TJ anywhere on the street. Hell, I would build a damn garage if you don't have one!

Yeah...I was actually confused when I first saw it. Just blows my mind.

🤯 That's awful, I am sorry to read this. I can't imagine what it feels like to see something you have be ransacked, even something so random.

Appreciate the comments, all. This crosses many boundaries for me. I have no understanding of what makes someone think that they have any right to someone else's property. That's the primary thing that gets me. Add to that the fact that I love that damned ol' truck. Owned it for 21 years, putting 350,000 of its 420,000 miles on it myself. As ridiculous as it sounds, I feel like someone just violated it. Little fuckers.

I agree, it was likely someone who has a similar truck (those parts interchange for a good number of years). I actually had someone say to me "Wow, they must have really needed those parts." Really? What kind of logic is that?

It just frustrates me, as now I'm in a "What's next?" frame of mind. Oh, well. As I've said before, if this is the worst thing that ever happens to me, then I'm doing alright.

Moving on. Thanks for letting me vent!

I'd be driving around the neighborhood looking for a similar model truck with some shinier headlight bezels than usual. Sorry to hear this buddy. It seems to be a common theme in many neighborhoods, mine included.

To make it even worse, the Western WA court system won't do anything to them. They most likely won't be able to pay restitution and won't see jail time on this misdemeanor. If they are juveniles then the punishment they receive will barely amount to a laughable reprimand.

The thieves might have been 12 or they could have been 65 years old....doesn't matter. They've already demonstrated a lack of empathy by committing the theft. If there's no punishment for their behavior they'll continue it.

Oh well, like you said, if this is the worse thing you face you are a lucky man. That being said, it's definitely piss-off-worthy!

That sucks! I have had a headlight stolen from a van (old sealed beam type) , both side doors off my 2003 E350 work van and lastly on the same van some meth heads sawed off the catalytic and sold it to the scrap metal companies for the platinum in it. I blame the scrap companies for giving these crack heads a viable market to sell them.

The local lowlife who wacked a few weeds for came dragging his buddy into the driveway awhile back. Each were carrying a fabric half door for a TJ. They wanted to sell them. I asked how they managed to wind up with a set of doors. Oh, I sold my Jeep and these were left over. Cool, what year was it? Huh? What kind was it? Oh, it just like the ones you have here. Great, what model and year are they, any of them? Uh, don't know. Okay, thanks but no thanks.

exactly, don't give them a market and maybe??? they don't take it or at least move on to something else.

That really sucks. When you get the new ones take an engraver and write your info on the back of the housing. In California they don't have to contact the owner of stolen parts unless their California drivers licence number is on the item. If it is marked the Police are legally obligated to contact the owner, otherwise it sits as evidence. Even if they catch the guy later the same night they'll have no way to get the part back to you. I have no idea why but all you need here is your CADL#. Obviously you can't mark everything but what is marked helps, WA might be different.
