A Story of Indecision and Frivolous Spending

It is very hard to work with to make bumpers. It has a generous minimum bend radius or it will break. If you look at the top bend across the front of the bumper, that is the dead giveaway that it isn't and can't be 6061 T6. It is a tight 90 done with conventional tooling on a press brake used for steel.

It is never good to assume.

You aren't paying attention. Look at the bends, you can not do that with 6061 T6.

This one says it's 6061-T6 and it appears to have the same bend though Blaine:

Unless I'm missing not seeing something.

I'm not doubting you at all. I just find it weird that those appear to be the same bumpers, one just has the bull-bar / winch guard, while the other does not.

The minimum bend radius for 6061 T6 is 3x the thickness or in this case, 9/16" which means the top punch has to have a diameter of 1 1/8" and that top bend would be a large radius corner like the one on the Savvy front.

I suspect someone in Genright's marketing department is just being a little loose with the truth or he just doesn't know.

I actually contacted GenRight just to clarify.

The bumper I ordered is made from 3/16" 5052 aluminum. I didn't ask about that other one with the winch guard (that looks identical otherwise), but it sounds like they have that bumper incorrectly labeled on the website as using 6061 T6.

I think the GenRight marketing department has some incorrect information listed on their website in this case!

Truth be told, I would have just sprung for the Savvy one, but the 15% off Cyber Monday deal was too good to pass up. Let's hope I don't smash the bumper!

that would require you to actually be done building it:p

Is it safe to assume the cheaper savvy bumper is still 6061?

Send it back and get the savvy

And does anybody have any good prospects for @Chris when his wife leaves? Lol

I just dropped it off at the shop this morning. The main mechanics / owners weren’t there, so I had to try and explain things to the kid who works there. Either he doesn’t talk much, or I was confusing the hell out of him with everything I was explaining.

Anyways, I gave him all the notes I’ve compiled on this install from Blaine and others. Here’s too hoping it goes well. I strongly encouraged them to call you Blaine Incase they get stuck. I also put a strong emphasis on not rushing this and taking the time to do it right, even if that costs considerably more money.

I’ll drop off the Currie springs and Poly Performance towers tomorrow and check on their progress.

Make sure they take extra good care of the parts they take off ;)

Why not just have Blaine do it? Money really doesn’t seem to be an issue right now.
