Notchy 1st to 2nd shift with NSG370

I am. My issue is the smoothness of the shift. It’s the jerking motion after up shifting and letting off the clutch. As I and another member said, I’m sure it’s the big jump in ratios, but I was curious if others had this “issue” and any advice. This is my fist 6 speed, and from research it isn’t a great ?

Have you driven a manual before?

I think you might be giving it to much gas

Yes. I’ve owned or driven a dozen or so 5 speeds before this Jeep. There were a few that took over a couple of days to learn and begin having smooth shifts. I’ve had this Jeep since May and just can’t seem to smooth out the 1st to 2nd shift.

Ahhhh... I would think its just practice and time. The jerking is probably from letting the clutch out too quick and or not givng it enough gas to match the revs. The lower gears and slower speeds will usually be felt more than say going from 5th to 6th.

I’m thinking the same, but man. It’s been months and I can’t get consistent smooth shifts. Sometimes I’ll “accidentally” get one and I’ll spend 30+ minutes driving around trying to recreate it 😂

The only way I can think to explain it is to describe downshifting first.

If you downshift from 2 to 1, you're going to have to blip the throttle more than from 3 to 2, 4 to 3, etc due to the ratios.

So, on the upshift, you're going to need to let the revs drop more going from 1 to 2, than from 2 to 3, 3 to 4, etc.

So, I think you have to much throttle when you release the clutch in 2nd.

I have a hard time swallowing the idea that you haven’t got it figured out yet. It’s been months. I doubt you’re doing anything wrong. Sounds like something in the clutch or transmission.

If you are talking about the smoothness of the whole drivetrain, not just the shifter there is a small possibility the motor and or transmission mounts have enough play to make everything bounce around slightly?

It’s not easy… there’s nothing better than great smooth shifts.

There a many times when I don’t feel like clutching into 2nd from a roll and opt to try 1st and it’s far less than smooth.

Don’t shift fast unless you have to. When I shift, I pause briefly before the next gear (unless I have to really get on it but I avoid those situations because, let’s be honest, TJs aren’t known to be race cars).
Nobody tell @D's Jeep Wrld :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I wish I could be of any help with your issues but we don't support the NSG370 so we haven't even collected any data on it. Unfortunately it is a known problem child and regularly changed out for something different. The majority of people we talk to can't even find a shop local to them that will touch the NSG370.

Best of luck with it, if you get into a position that we can help with let me know.

Hahaa, Putting me on the map huh🤣
Funny enough it shifts like Warm butter on a hot plate when I'm shifting fast actually (at wide open throttle,Letting off when shifting ofcourse cause I dont got no lift shift)

Its just when im driving normally It's my 3-4 or 5-4 shifts that feel weird, I was gonna bug yall about it but I'm just chalking it up to myself till now. It feels weird! It's just doesn't feel smooth and it's been like that since day 1

And Coming out of 4th to go into 5th or from 4th to 3rd isn't the smoothest either! I thought it was normal but it seems I'm not the only that's experiencing this !
That notchy feeling&noise mainly happens when I'm coming into to 4th not necessarily coming out of 4th

Edit- To add it hasn't gotten better or worse, that small issue has been there,Does it truly bug me ? No. but seeing that all the other gears shift smooth like butter it just raises an eyebrow for me
While we're here can you email me the invoice/receipt of my order please ! I got a new insurance company so I'm trying to get my most recent receipts of my parts to be covered!
