Car pics too cool not to share

Yep. Not a fan of the lack of feel with electric assist.

The absolute best car I've ever owned with regard to steering feel was an '85 Mark II Golf with manual steering. The car was super light. 2 door, stick, base motor and skinny tires. A front drive, yes, but it would rotate by lifting the throttle in a turn. Steering feel was almost akin to running your palm across the pavement. A car you could easily take beyond its meager limits and casually walk it back under control. SO fun.

We had a base 02 Mark IV Golf 4 dr. Hands down the most fun handling car I've owned . Throttle input on mountain highways , and the communication with the road made it fun ! The front drive Toyota's I've driven had no road feel and Tons of understeer . If German cars were reliable , I would have one today.

My main, maybe only, complaint about Toyotas in general is their overly "soft" feel compared to similar vehicles, like Honda. Toyota generally just seem to have a higher gearing, softer transmission engagements and overdriven power steering (pre EPS). The understeer is probably a symptom of striving for a softer suspension.

There is a corner in my canyon that I could take the Golf though at 75 m.p.h wound up in 3 rd. gear and it felt great. The Golf was in for warranty work and I was given a 02 Corolla as a loaner . I took the same corner at 65 m.p.h. and the front suspension just folded up , left front tire screaming , and a WOT in 2nd. gear with the automatic . I would feel more confident at 65 m.p.h. in my lifted TJ than the Toyota . Nervous sure , but more confident .

Yeah Toyotas aren’t for me. Generally boring vehicles to drive.

The last time I drove a Golf was 2015. It was good then and I understand they still are. But I also read the manual is no longer available in the US☹️.

I’m not sure what to think about reliability. My wife’s X3 has been mostly good for over 150K mi. and a recent oil analysis showed a very happy motor. We’ve looked at the new Audi SQ5s but the whole dash is a computer screen. You certainly hear alot about glitchy electronics in newer vehicles and that’s one thing that attentive maintenance won’t save you from.

Sadly that seems to be the fate of all modern vehicles in this country. Manual trans are actually a specialty item now. Honda vehicles with a manual trans get an upcharge for that option, something in the $2-3K range IIRC.

It's only a matter of time before everything is a CVT mini bike clutch , and we will be longing for the days of an actual automatic .

I didn't realize that was Hoovie's car that burnt. Should be an interesting build.

I'll be following it. Took me a minute to get used to watching it, as the host looks like a less sleazy version of Danny Masterson. I think I saw a couple of their earliest videos, but haven't seen one in years. This looks like the perfect build to start watching again.

I don't follow them either but subscribed for this build.
