Finally going to get finished. 68 with 18k original miles, swapped in a 572 hemi that I built. Bought in 1991 and I have never driven her. Envy!

Yep. Not a fan of the lack of feel with electric assist.
The absolute best car I've ever owned with regard to steering feel was an '85 Mark II Golf with manual steering. The car was super light. 2 door, stick, base motor and skinny tires. A front drive, yes, but it would rotate by lifting the throttle in a turn. Steering feel was almost akin to running your palm across the pavement. A car you could easily take beyond its meager limits and casually walk it back under control. SO fun.
The front drive Toyota's I've driven had no road feel and Tons of understeer
My main, maybe only, complaint about Toyotas in general is their overly "soft" feel compared to similar vehicles, like Honda. Toyota generally just seem to have a higher gearing, softer transmission engagements and overdriven power steering (pre EPS). The understeer is probably a symptom of striving for a softer suspension.
We had a base 02 Mark IV Golf 4 dr. Hands down the most fun handling car I've owned . Throttle input on mountain highways , and the communication with the road made it fun ! The front drive Toyota's I've driven had no road feel and Tons of understeer . If German cars were reliable , I would have one today.
I also read the manual is no longer available in the US.
Sadly that seems to be the fate of all modern vehicles in this country. Manual trans are actually a specialty item now. Honda vehicles with a manual trans get an upcharge for that option, something in the $2-3K range IIRC.
I wonder how much, if any, that changes the F-R balance. I imagine it adds a bit to the rear, which in a straight line wouldn't be an issue, but powering through and out of a turn might get a little iffy.
That's insane, on every level.![]()
I didn't realize that was Hoovie's car that burnt. Should be an interesting build.
I'll be following it. Took me a minute to get used to watching it, as the host looks like a less sleazy version of Danny Masterson.I think I saw a couple of their earliest videos, but haven't seen one in years. This looks like the perfect build to start watching again.
