Rock Sliders / Rocker Guards Guide

No armor should ever be made from 5052 even in a thicker material. It is about 1/2 the strength of 6061 T-6. It is used because it can be bent and formed with tight bends, it doesn't rust like steel, and it is cheaper by a bunch. Savvy did a few experimental mini boatsides in 6061 T-6 in 3/16". They failed terribly and with a quickness in a few trips out to JV.

What is your skid made from?

Well that settles it for me. Between the bulk, the holes to let dirt in and sit, and the soft aluminum, I’m going with something else. Savvy or Artec. I do go rock crawling, but I’m sticking to blue and easy black trails for now, but I want protection, not soft aluminum. i did just get the Savvy corners, but havent put them on yet.

Take a look at @Fluxor 's offerings - he's building good stuff: https://fluxoffroad.com/products/fl...rocker-guards-with-stainless-steel-rash-guard

those flux ones look nice. I know its controversial, but i think I would prefer a small angled bit of protection similar to the current savvy there instead of the flat. Stir pot

It’s a Savvy engine skid. I thought they were T6061 but I don’t know. Maybe I have a pic of the bend. I will have to look. Took a lot to bend it back and I wasn’t able to get it perfect. It bent mostly behind where the sides are bent up near the attachment to the TCase skid. I wondered if those sides should go further back to stiffen it all the way back to the TCase skid. You’re the Wizard. You know.

I just finished my re-fashioning of the GR mini boat sides. Cut off the step. Made a C-channel stiffener. Added it near the top of the rail. I’m very pleased with this design which I believe is credit to @mrblaine.

Don't blame that mess on me. My holes would never be off center in the face of the rub rail and the ends would not be square. You may have drawn inspiration from something I did, but that is not my design.

Proud of my mess. 🤣

Man, I am like SO on the body mounts thing. 🤣 Was planning it anyway but it just takes time and money to get there. I have a plan of madness! Plenty of good pressure to get there. What I didn’t know was that @sunnysideup_lj has a website up now and several items for sale, so I went ahead and bought a set.

Awesome!

Do you know if or how they differ from genright, or if they're just an alternate option? I did mine long enough ago now that the choice was GR or something way overbuilt like artec IIRC.

I do not know if there are any differences. At a glance they look very similar. Maybe he’ll chime in and tell us if there are any nuances. Hopefully I’ll have a set in my hands next week.

I got ahold of a CAD model of a TJ frame. Took the mounts, raised them 1.25” and kept the shape very similar to factory. Not sure how they compare side by side to Genrights. Have installed a handful of mine, no issues.

When I did them for GR, I didn't have a CAD model, I did have a frame in front of me though, I just did them in steel. I don't know that I can tell the difference after they are installed based on what I see.
