Piss & Moan Table

At least they made some nice clean cuts and didn't destroy anything else. ¿Winning?!!??

I say this as a gun guy and a property owner, I'm pro hunting but not a hunter.

Do most hunters suck?

I could write a manifesto from a property owners POV.

There's a spectrum and some seem to be on it.

I've hunted with people until the point where I was almost shot. Since then I'm very selective about who I hunt with.

I have a buddy that would always hunt our property with me for years he'd bring his brother and another friend at times and he'd always have our stands set up when I never had time to do it. They'd always want me to get my deer first since it was our land. I didn't care, I wanted them to enjoy their hunt. Was a lot of fun hunting with them over the years, good memories.

Then there are the people that you'd find hunting your property without permission or even knowing who you are.

There are the hunters that leave the gut piles or the deer heads after they've come on your property without permission.

Then there are the dozen or so who donated their hunting stands to the buddy I mentioned above when they decided to attach them to one of our trees without permission.

Haven't hunted for over 10 years, don't really miss it. I can fill the freezer with beef for less money and time.

Hunters come from the general population, so if I asked you, "does the general population suck?" I think you'll find your answer...

I have had numerous hobbies over the years, and in every case, the bad apples did a lot of damage to the reputation of that hobby. For instance, I just watched an interview with the guy that created the Trans-America Trail ("Sam"). He told a story about asking permission from a feller to put the public road he lived on on his route maps. The guy's front porch was mere feet off the gravel. Sam started the trail for motorcyclists, and he explained to the feller that if he put it on his map, he'd occasionally see motorcyclists on his gravel road. The feller said he was okay with it, so Sam added it.

A short time later, the feller called Sam and asked him to remove it because riders were off the road, in his field, chasing his cows on their motorcycles. Sam obliged. Do most motorcyclists suck? To that feller, it doesn't matter if most suck. All it takes is one that sucks to impact his life. Unfortunately, the human thing to do is associate motorcyclists with bad behavior...

The problem is not hunters - it's our society. It's creating very selfish people who don't think, or even care, how their actions impact others. Sorry for the rant this morning, but this is the piss and moan thread!

In the midwest you don't hunt. You sit and ambush.

I've had numerous friends hunt here since I bought the place. 2 were excellent. (one is my son in law)
Told them all to take their stands with, first year they did. Second year they left them. I took them down after a couple years and gave them away.
This place still has multiple stands and seats chained to trees with the bark growing around the chain.
I've hit left behind spikes while cutting firewood.

Neighbor can come anytime with his grade school boys, I just ask for a quick text to let me know they are there.
One day I came home to their pickup in my driveway. I texted them to find out they were hunting. I let it pass this time but WTF its a damn simple request.

Side note I posted this in the car pics thread on the Trans-America trail so I'll repost here since you mentioned it.

Interesting. My first thought was, "Great, they took the modest income Sam had from selling maps and GPS tracks of the route that he spent a decade discovering and gave it all away, killing his income." But I noticed that they were very sly and didn't divulge the trail at all. You still have to get that information from Sam's web site. So, they added value without killing Sam's business. Well done, Ford/Google!

Continuing the manifesto:
When I bought the Indiana property in 2010 around Labor Day we took our camper over and proceeded to hack the jungle back from the building site to reclaim it.

Later in the month I got a call from someone who was hunting the property under the previous owner. (One of the owners was this guys boss “Jim” at the Electrical Co-op, I’ll circle back to that) he asked if he could continue to hunt. I explained how the shear amount of work the property needed and would appreciate some help in exchange. Season was approaching so they talked me into letting them hunt first, labor later.

Well you can similar how that worked out. Vanished after hunting season. I took their stands down and threw them in a lean to shed. They came one day and picked them up. No communication.

A few months later I’m standing in the loader bucket taking down the overhead wires to a shed and a bucket truck from the Electrical company roles in. Turns out they were sent there because the power meter wasn’t registering enough power….they thought it was broke but I wasn’t using much power. They say they’ll come back and help…again crickets.

Fast forward a couple years and I have the power company out to move the transformer. I’m talking to Jim about the job and I ask him whatever happened to that asshole I let hunt here. The worker with pipes up and says he’s the asshole. Picture the veins in his neck sticking out. I told him he had a good thing and too bad he fucked up. Claimed he injured his leg and couldn’t come payback the help. I asked why he didn’t just let me know. Said he lost my number. Oh you mean the number that you called to ask me to hunt?

I assured him before he left that he had no reason to be butthurt since he was the fuck up.

Let’s throw another one out there.

Guys set up on the property line. On the neighbors side. Take a poorly placed shot and call me to track their deer which always head my way.

But three years in a row?

Told them before next season come over and I’ll help them sight in their rifle.

Backer Uppers. Seems all the rage over the past few years, everyone wanting to back into parking spots in parking lots now. While there are some very good reasons for parking this way, if you're going to do it I've got a couple of thoughts on the matter; a) maybe buy a f*cking vehicle size you can manage/drive and b) learn how to f*cking park the damn thing. This isn't on the job training, learn how to park in an empty lot so as not to f*ck up everyone's day around you when it's busy. If you can't do it right in one shot, pull the f*ck in, and center it between the lines either way. Know your vehicle. Assholes.

Tomorrow maybe I'll go off about all the really special pricks who park up in front of businesses instead of using the parking lot like everyone else...

I am a backer upper :(

Can you actually do it? Does it take 5 attempts, and then you're 6" away from the vehicle on one side or parked at an angle so the adjacent car can't actually pull out without hitting you? If you do it, maybe be proficient is my point.

Yes, 1st time with most vehicles, sometimes need an adjustment with the truck cos long. I am not confused by it every time
