I know Summit builds quality stuff in their brand (ie: seat foam). Just not read much about their heater cores.

Brass Works

From what I've read, Brass Works has a problem supplying the OEM quality heat to the cabin.

Not sure how recent this change is, but just saw it when looking at pricing for the 2002-2006 version.

"Most heater cores perform well at 11 fins per inch. Jeep guys wanted more heat so we added a 15FPI and then a 20FPI. We noticed some Jeepers bought the lower price heater core and then went on forums to complain. They spoke, we listened. We now only offer a 20FPI and we are now offer an oversized 2-5/8" thick core in the box."

I've read that the updated heater core still doesn't provide the same OEM heat out of the heater.

The one that I did in my nephews '97 TJ a few years ago was from O'Reilly and aluminum. It still doesn't leak, knock on wood for him, and puts out very good heat.

after detonating 2 performance heater cores I just put a Brass works core in, very pricey but I want to never have to do another one (even though it wasn't as bad as I was expecting) My uneducated estimate is that it heats as well or better than the Performance core (we'll see once the devils dandruff starts to fall)

Good to know! I've been debating on getting one just for the brass aspect

The brassworks core is a freakin tank and it has tabs that actually snap into the recesses in the plennum box its a very snug fit, the Performance core was flopping around in there even with a ton of core tape on it
How is the heat output for the Brass Works?

Just following this thread - mine's been out of commission for the 5 years I've owned the Jeep, but I would like to replace it at some point.
I mean, your in Florida, so why do you need a heater? 😂

Seems to be equivalent to the performance core
42 this morning, full doors and no top and I wasn't uncomfortable
Good to know. I may get a Brass Works based on your recommendation. Not sure about the 6-week lead time though.

Exactly. That's why I haven't bothered to change the thing out. In fact, I'm toying with the idea of adding a heater core on the OUTSIDE somewhere just to increase the cooling capacity of the radiator!
That's brilliant. Not sure where you'd add it considering the 4.0 is stuffed in tight.

Sorry for the double ask mjones but curious your miles on this OEM heater core as a data point if I (and others, maybe) bit the bullets before failure in our builds.
