Something is wrong with MORryde tailgate install

Back-of-napkin math:
  • factory carrier is ~7.25" mounting face to mounting face, but it's 5x4.5 and I need 5x5
  • using this page & comparing factory to new wheels, a 1.25" spacer will give me the same inner sidewall distance (within 0.1") on a 12.5"-wide tire on 8.5"-wide wheel that I get with the stock 245/75 on a 8"-wide wheel. So, what I really want is to be less than 1.25" off the factory carrier. A mounting face between 7.75" and 8.25" off the tailgate would be ideal, and would let me cut some of the snubber spacers out.
  • RC mount spacer is... I dunno. It's bigger than 1.25", I'm sure. So I'd have to add more snubber spacers.
A 1.25” wheel adapter is probably the way to go. But just in case someone’s done something that tucks the tire closer, I’m looking for other ideas.

I put the Morryde Tire Carrier and a RC tire holder on mine. It's heavy and sticks out way too much.

Planning on replacing it with Fluxor aluminum hitches and his tire carrier.

I drilled out 5x5 pattern, installed lugs, and 1/2” spacer on stock carrier.

Did any of you have any issues with the third brake light contacts after installing this? Looks like most people remove the light itself, but did you remove the contacts on the tailgate?

Just installed mine and they change the pivot point when the tailgate opens. The contacts/buttons get caught on the tub pinch weld and get yanked out, even after moving the tailgate all the way towards the driver side. Still using my OEM third brake light since it'll still fit a 33".

I had the same issue and if I remember correctly I had to adjust the contacts so that they would clear when opening. If you take off the plastic cover there should be some room for adjustment. It may not be perfect but should be enough to stay on and still make contact when closed.

I spent hours trying to get mine aligned and fishing out the plugs. sometimes simple is best. I took a wrap or two of 14/16ga wire to push the tub side plungers out about a 1/4in. Been good for a year+

Same as @primetime4 . After a little tweaking and adjustment, the contacts work as intended with the cover still in place. Installed mine about 4 years ago and it's been flawless since.

I just remembered exactly what I did. For my contacts to clear the tub, I had to space them out a bit. I had a few sets of plastic skateboard risers of different heights and one of them worked perfect. What’s cool is no one would ever know but there’s a logo of Independent Trucks hidden under the cover like an Easter egg.
