Radio's in both Jeeps are having issues, so it's time for an upgrade.

Currently I'm considering the Jensen CAR714MW since it has Apple CarPlay, expansion for future Sirius, and dual camera inputs. I also like a manual radio volume knob. But I'm curious if anyone has had any problems with this or other Jensen radio's or installs. I do realize this needs the double din dash and maybe some modification to the mounting points.

Are the radios in your TJ now OEM, if so what models?

The TJ is OEM. Volume knob doesnt work anymore and CD's get stuck at times. The LJ has an aftermarket removable faceplate Kenwood. But I'm looking to replace both of them anyway.

I really like the logic of the Sony units. They are so easy and intuitive to navigate menus. Everything is right where you think it would be without weird audio names that certain companies use. My Sony XAV-AX6000 has wireless Apple CarPlay that works seamlessly and connects so quickly I hardly notice a delay. I keep looking at some cheaper wired Apple CarPlay units for my other rig, but I can’t stoop to a wired connection after enjoying the wireless so much. I like my phone in my pocket. YMMV.

I like the Sony units as well except they dont have a physical volume knob. The Boss units also have a volume knob but I have no experience with them. I used to have a Jensen back in the 90's when the removable faceplates were all the rage haha, and its sound quality was good considering I didnt have the greatest speakers at that time.

Correct. No knob. I thought it would be important, and it was initially one of my top criteria, but I found it to be less important than other features. For example, I have a nice mute button right in the center. I just tap that button and it goes completely quiet. YMMV

It looks like yours is a single din mount but a double din display? Did you have any mounting troubles?

I put in Jensen CAR723W wireless car play, it’s plenty good for me. Connect us up super fast, and I have a magnetic mount that charges magnetic to my iPhone next to it
So I can have Waze going and Music and Skip etc on the phone interface

Starting post 88 on this thread, I have pics of putting it in.
I also put an Alpine Amp, speakers front and back, and a powered 10” Rockville Sub. Absolutely cranks! Love it.

Namsung owns Dual, Jensen, and Axxera. The units branded as Dual vs Jensen are often almost identical but sold through different sales channels. Pretty sure the Dual XDCPA73W that Walmart sells is the same thing for half the price.

I have the previous generation unit. It is adequate, nothing special, but gives me wireless carplay and better sound than OEM. The screen does tend to wash out in bright sunlight.

I've had a Dual unit in my work car for nearly 8 years now. I bought two at Crutchfield on closeout for $39 each. It still works great.

Which one do you have?
I have a bottom

Thats really good to know, thank you. I'll go back and look at the Dual options.

Jensen should be fine if it has the features you want and not concerned with high quality sound, not considering an aftermarket amp or sub.

I always try to go with Alpine if I'm keeping the vehicle for a while. Otherwise, top of my list would be Kenwood and Pioneer. My LJ has a 10+ yo Alpine single DIN. Works and sounds great. No car play because I don't think that existed when I got it.

I bought a dual DIN Sony for the TJ I'm giving to my kids. Mediocre, it works ok most of the time. I prefer a volume knob and it doesn't have one, just buttons. It sometimes doesn't connect to bluetooth devices and the screen is hard to see in daylight.

I do plan to upgrade speakers and add a sub or two under the seats. I'll admit I know nothing of audio equipment though. I have these (https://www.quadratec.com/p/quadrat...sh-speaker-upgrade-kit-97-06-jeep-wrangler-tj, https://www.quadratec.com/p/quadrat...d-bar-speaker-kit-wrangler-tj/late-kwr65-0306) in the TJ, and they seem decent, although they seem awful expensive considering other options such as this for example (https://www.crutchfield.com/p_20651KSS50/Kicker-KSS50.html?tp=105). I dont think I paid 200 bucks 10 years ago for those from q-tech though, maybe 120? And I'm not sure about 'powered' subs (https://www.crutchfield.com/p_20651HS8/Kicker-51HS8.html?tp=114) compared to conventional low profile ones (https://www.crutchfield.com/g_44635...er&nvpair=AG_General_Features|FFShallow_Mount)

It’s a DD.

Doesn’t everyone like DD?

I replaced mine this spring with an amazon $120 special — it has been great. Being able to run trail maps on it makes me happy because I can keep Spotify up on the phone now.
