I’ve had poor hearing for most of my life. Constant ear infections as a kid, driving with the windows down and working in high noise environments.
My hearing loss has gotten to the point where I had to bite the bullet and get hearing aids. I got a pair of perception over the ear aids. I don’t know the brand but they are middle of the road quality. They can sync with my phone and are rechargeable. Thankfully my insurance paid for most of the cost.
My questions to those who have hearing aids, what am I in for? I have a very active lifestyle and wondering how they will hold up working around the shop. Have you been happy with them?

Do the behind the ear aids still have a "plug" that goes into the ear canal, or is it some kind of "free floating" setup?

I need aids myself, like you I had endless ear infections - not just as a kid, but as an adult too (still get them from time-to-time) completely destroying my once wonderful hearing. But I can't abide something stuck in my ear. Wife just got some in-ear aids that she says work pretty well, they are the "over the counter" type, I think she paid $300 for the pair, but usually only uses one.

There's nothing quite like an unmuffled 6~71 Detroit at 'full song' with the straight pipe running along the roll cage on a log skidder.
Yes, I wear hearing aids, paid for through the BC WorkSafe.
Didn't get the re~chargeables because I spend a lot of time back in the bush, and batteries are free for me. You'll need to find a current bush to re~charge yours! Mine are high~end units, $6,600.—
When hunting, not moving, and the aids on the highest setting . . . you can hear a worm crawling on the other side of the valley.

You're posting in purple again - unreadable...

I got a pair of behind the ear style. I don't wear them much. They will connect to my phone, but not my tablet. I would probably wear them more if they did.

I tried them on and they I could not feel them at all. Makes me worry that they may fall out or catch on a branch or something. Behind the ear aids have a tube/wire that go into the ear canal.
Prescription aids will amplify the frequencies that I have trouble with. They said the model I chose will filter out some of the background noise which give me problems OTC ones amplify everything.
I went rechargeable because I did not want to carry batteries or fumble with them. They will give me an extra charger base that I’ll keep in the truck. The charger pack that I have as backup for my phone will plug into the charging base.
I don’t care if I can hear worms. I just want to be able to understand people when they are talking to me and the TV. They also say untreated hearing loss can lead to Dementia. I already have CRS and don’t want to make it worse.

Well I picked up my hearing aids yesterday. What a difference being able to hear things that I could not hear before. The downside is that I can hear everything my wife says and have no excuse that I did not hear her. I was worried that working around the shop banging on things would be a problem but it seems OK. I can hear the TV now without having it turned way up. Fans and squeaking doors seem to be an issue though as they can be annoying now. Driving with the windows down also must be avoided. Thanks for all your input.
