hi! How is everyone? I am rebuilding a 2000 TJ Sahara Jeep two-door and I’m trying to figure out what the best modification would be for a lift and tire situation. I would like to do 33s, but I’m not sure how that would look. I currently have a 2022 Jeep Willys with 33s. I’m not sure what lift would go best for the 2000 and I’m also considering doing 32s as well without having to change the suspension of the Jeep. I would still like to do a lift as well. Please let me know if anyone is able to send photos or give me guidance that would be amazing! Thank you!

All depends on how 2 factors - how you plan to use the TJ and what your final tire size will be. Will it stay 100% on-road? Will you be doing light to moderate off-roading or hard core rock crawling? Bigger tires look cool on a TJ but come with trade-offs unless done right, and doing it right gets far more complicated and expensive the further you get from stock sized tires. Check out these threads for some good info on the topic.

I wouldn't suggest going above 31" tires and a 2.5" lift unless you can give us a reason you need 33" tires.

Going to 33" tires and bigger can become quite expensive if you want to do it with. Besides, I think a TJ looks fantastic with 31" tires and a 2.5" lift.

Hi! Thank you so much for the response! I appreciate the feedback, I am looking for a chunky and wider body look. I would like to do 32” tires as the smallest. I would prefer 33” but I am looking for a smoother ride and I’m not sure what to do considering the suspension. I’m fine with the bigger lift for no rubbing. I currently drive a 2022 Willys two-door on 33” with no lift. I have zero rubbing and it’s still a smooth ride. I am trying to think what would be the best solution.

Well I guess the next question would be what's your budget?

It sounds like you're just going for looks? If that's the case you could get by with a Zone Offroad 4" lift (you'll need 4" to run 33" tires and a 3" lift would work to run 32" tires). You can avoid a SYE / CV driveshaft by dropping the transfer case with some longer bolts and a bunch of spacers (which I believe is included in the Zone kit).

Mine has an Old Man Emu 2" lift and 32" tires. I do a lot of Arizona trails and some lighter rock crawling stuff. It has 3.73 gears and manual transmission, and it's on the borderline of needing lower gears. Taller tires would definitely put me over the line.

Make sure you have stock 3.73 gears and not 3.07s before going larger than 31" tires.

3" lift with 33s. I was going to add a BL before I sold it.
