After a little over two years of mild use, my M12 Fuel stubby 3/8 impact is dying. It makes a bad grinding noise and locks up occasionally. Has anyone had to return one of these, or other Milwaukee tool? If so, what's the process like?

I recently had an M18 drill stop working. I think it was about six months old. Filled out an online form on the Milwaukee site. They emailed me a shipping label to ship back to their factory in Mississippi. About a week later I had a brand new M18 drill at my house. With the online form you get a control number where you can track the status of your repair/warranty request.
I wasn't sure if mine was still under warranty and on the form it said if the part requires repair Milwaukee will contact you to tell you what's wrong and if there is a repair cost what that cost will be. Seemed to me they had a flat rate repair on most their drills/impacts.

Editing my post to take in B1 Toad's comment below: I bought my M18 drill at Home Depot and apparently there aren't any authorized repair facilities in Albuquerque because Milwaukee requested I send the drill back directly to them.

We have a local shop that fixes Milwaukee. The authorized Milwaukee dealer where you bought it should be able to help. If you didn't buy it from an authorized dealer you might be out of luck, I found this out the hard way that Amazon is not an authorized Milwaukee dealer, I had a bad M12 battery only a few months old and Milwaukee says no and the Amazon seller says sorry 30 days.

I bought all my Milwaukee tools from Home Depot. I'll check with them and see what they say, thanks!

I used the Milwaukee online form to get service on a shop light that wouldn’t work. Everything went well and they updated me at the different steps of the process. They ended up sending me a new light. Fairly quick and painless.

I had them refuse warranty on a M18 drill that had something broken in the drivetrain after I sent it in and they took it apart. They said I abused it. I sent them the receipts for several thousand dollars worth of their stuff in the last few years and told them that if using a drill to drill holes is abuse, then I guess I’m guilty. They decided to replace it as a “one time good will gesture.”

I also sent an M18 Hackzall in that had some of the over-molded rubber tearing, and they replaced it, no questions.

Both interactions were with Milwaukee directly through their warranty portal.

Home Depot here in Tucson actually refers us to the local authorized Milwaukee repair shop I mentioned.
