I am top down every day it isn’t raining and from my shoulders up is beginning to look charbroiled. I love the open air but my skin color is grossly mismatched.

Thinking I may try a mesh bikini top. Looking at only covering the front seats.

Top hits are MasterTop, SpiderWeb Shades and DirtyDog 4x4.

Please share your experience if you use one of these.. or make a suggestion if there is something better.

I run an Alien shade off Amazon, it's long enough to cover the rear seats as well so the kids get shade too.

Does it flap much in the wind? Can the tension be adjusted?

I'd probably ditch my soft top if I had a sunshade since I never put my windows in. Hard top in the winter

They all do the same job. Materials are likely very similar. Prices are all over the place.

I don’t need the back seat covered. My wife and daughter refuse to go in the Jeep.

Most are held in place with ball-end bungee cords. They tend to lose tension over time but throwing an overhand knot in the cord can often be sufficient for tightening them up

I have the spiderweb full length TJ one on my LJ. It's been good. It moves around a little, but doesn't make any noise.

No one every rides in the back of mine either, but I wanted full length since the sun isn't always directly overhead.

LJ shade on a TJ allows the shade to come well down the back of the rollbar, so if you have kids back there the afternoon sun won't bake them completely. It doesn't hamper vision too much either.

Yep. I’m in the dual car seat club

I am on my second Spider Web Shade and love it. I had one on the JL and now I have one on the TJ.

I don't ever hermetically seal myself in my Jeeps. So when I had the JL that thing was in the sun every day 24/7 without issue or fading. Held up just fine to three Idaho Summers.

I don’t need the back seat covered. My wife and daughter refuse to go in the Jeep.

I don't really have a photo of it other than this one, and to say it covers the back seat fully. I haven't had issues with the bungees yet, but it's still early. The JL has a different mounting method. But the bungees make it really easy to pull it off and power wash the thing.

Installed the SpideWebShades TJKini today. Install was a breeze. After a day I can say I need more time to decide if I want to keep it.

Pros:
  • Noticeably and measurably cooler. I can feel the difference on my left arm versus my right arm.
  • My hat hasn’t blown off yet...that's a new thing
  • The front bungee that goes around the footman‘s loop is a great place to hang my sunglasses
Cons:
  • A bit claustrophobic. Not nearly as open hair as having nothing
  • The header latches are a little bit of a challenge to latch shut with the mesh in place. Might seem nit picking but I drop the Sunrider everyday and close it every evening.

I also have the Alien Mesh top from Amazon and I love it! No flapping. Had the Jeep up to 60. No flapping from the mesh top…..only the rear seatbelts.;)
