What did you do to your TJ today?

Well started yesterday morning removing the cb radio, which led me down a wiring rabbit hole under the dash. Took out a couple pounds of copper that was not factory. Finished this morning putting it back together. Fire extinguisher on standby 😂

Installed the Metalcloak aluminum corner armor. I'm not sure if I'm going to paint it or not. I kind of like the aluminum/black look.

Welp, starting the full gauntlet of maintenance on the Jeep. Might start my build thread. Using this whole opportunity to teach my middle daughter how to work on cars. Just guiding her, and letting her do the wrenching while Dad breaks a few bolts.

Today she changed the oil and did all the spark plugs. Next up, we'll service the transfer case and axles. Then do the transmission and coolant flush.

That right there ^^^

That's what being a dad is all about. Hopefully she'll keep those memories forever, as I'm sure you will.

Superstitions Back Roads this morning. First trail for me with some technical areas. Mostly under 5 I think but some 6-7 according to onX. Turned around on the trail once only because I wasn't so sure about my Dana 35 open diff.

Air down was to 20 and sway bar was totally off for the first time! Definitely need quick disconnects.

Please try to always wheel with a partner.

Finally got around to taking out the front axle seals this afternoon. My apprentice is learning, he waited until we had everything taken apart before saying “first project where nothing went wrong”, last time he said that right before a brake line sheared off at the flare fitting…

True though, differential bolts all came out without incident - no heat, no extractor sockets, and no Kroil needed. Carrier popped out without incident and the antiseize on the brake caliper bolts and hub bolts made them all a breeze this time.

Forum again saved us tons of time, particularly a Mr. Blaine tip for separating the differential cover to “Get the shop hammer and smack the shit out of it sideways at the bottom corner like you are trying to drive the cover into the inside of the passenger tire”. Came loose in 4 or 5 smacks, the 17 year old is a lot stronger than dad which helps.

Cleaning everything and putting in the new seals tomorrow, it’s beer thirty tonight, plus the kid is hanging out with friends.

I found that a merge collector and spring isolator handy so thats what I'm gonna use!

Edit- To elaborate,I used said collector&spring isolator to use between the jack&body, isolator on the body so it won't hurt nothing 😁

It would be easier (and cheaper) for you to just lose 3lbs. The weight saving for either is negligible. 🤫

My bicycler friend tells me all about the guys that spend thousands of dollars to shave a few ounces off their cycles and then carry 15lbs of extra belly around
