Jeep 101: Big Red's Build 2023-2025

Well, Right before leaving for EJS, Big Red popped a check engine… waddya know… tps sensor! So after all my dective work on the high idle issue, that may have been it ( i cleaned it/hadn’t replaced). So, it was replaced and off we went!

How was EJS? Hope you'll share some pictures & such of your trip with all of us.

i disagree with all previous comments poo-pooing EJS. it was a fantastic experience. The town was not crowded. Never had more than a 15 min wait for a table. The trails were great & no more than 20 rigs to a run with the ejs/red rock 4x4 3 day package, professional trail leaders with organized driver meetings & radio comms each day, including ice cream sandwiches at lunch:). Very nice vendor show thur/fri with many items valued over $1000. Can’t say anything negative about this event. We will be returning next year for the 60th anniversary EJS.

Those sliders cleaned up nice!

Continuing on with the Build thread, coming back from EJS, noticed small leak around bottom radiator of coolent

seemed to be coming from bottom radiator hose, so i tightened the clamp.

2nd leakage around sye
Seems this is a common thing with terra flex, so i filed warranty return and they sent me a new one.

Had a suggestion to sell it and try jb conversions one instead… any thoughts?

I encourage folks not to use worm gear clamps but the constant tension clamps that came OEM with our Jeep’s. Temps cause the hose to expand and contract. Worm gears are a constant size. Constant tension clamps adjust to the changing size of the hose and perform better.

As far as the Teraflex SYE, most here prefer the JB, but if the Teraflex is working for you then good. The leak could be a number of things. Clean the area well and find the source.

Thank you for the advice on clamps!

As for the SYE, it’s the 2nd one new with same issue, so i think while i have a 3rd terra flex new in the box, i’ll try to sell it and buy the JB. Is there a preferred dealer for the JB @JMT ?

From your profile, it looks like you have a 231 Transfer case. What I don’t know is if you want the super short, SYE or the regular SYE. I like the super short so you can get a longer rear driveshaft. But you already may have the regular length and shorter driveshaft. Obviously, if you change from one to the other, you have to get a different rear driveshaft. You probably want to keep that the same, so make sure you know if you have a super short, which I think the TeraFlex is called extreme short or something like that, and if so, then you want to get a super short SYE from JB conversions. Also beware that if you’re going from a standard to a super short then you have to get an electronic speed sensor so your speedometer will work. If you already have an extreme short, you probably already have this.

If you don’t have a super short, then you’ll wanna get the regular from JB conversions
