04 LJK Repair, Redo, Recycle - The 3 R's of a First Build

Are you just wanting to eliminate the charcoal canister, Boom?

If so, there is a hose that runs from the solenoid to the canister, and a hose that runs from the canister back to the solenoid. Remove the canister, connect those two hoses, and you are golden. No codes from doing this. I also do not have any issues with fumes.

I did same and no issues, no codes, no fumes 8+ months since stretch with coilovers.

Whatever's easiest, I would also be willing to delete everything but this sounds like a great fix! So if i reach in with a sawzall an cut this it won't matter then? can you draw which tube goes where? Did you use a barbed fitting and hose clamps?

He's got a good picture of what he did on JeepForum.

I don't see what you can't cut off the canister like that.

My first check, things look pretty good to reuse the towers. I put tire on and full stuff / articulated (but shock bumper not compressed so 1/2” more travel to go). I have sufficient clearance between CO spring dia and the tire.

I have like exactly zero clearance to the spring diameter at the inside of the frame. For this reason I am going to do two things 1) move the rear axle forward about 1/4”, I’m also hitting my diff cover on gas tank. 2) I’m going to move the axle tube mount outboard on the axle tube.

Mothers day weekend so didn't get anything else done. i talked to Blaine and i did buy the Genright ones because they mount right at the bottom of the axle tube. THe e-brake connection is unfortunately RIGHT in the way of where I want to put my shock mount. I purchased LJ brake cables off of Rock Auto since I was using JK 2door cables which were too long and have bigger spring diameter then the LJ ones. Plan is to mount the shock mount just below the ebrake connection and hopefully the Coilover cup will sit just above the cable.

Call up and ask Poly Performance for the ones that they use with this kit.
https://www.polyperformance.com/poly-performance-universal-tj-lj-shock-mount-kit

comes all welded up and this design limits the amount of debris caught in the mount. All the others you reference above are two soup-bowls per...

Also, does the top of the tire rub on the hose fitting?

We've been trying to buy the lower mount out of that kit for 15 years. They don't sell it separately and have no plans to. I've explained that we sometimes swap out an axle and just need the lower mounts. Falls on deaf ears.

I ordered up the genright ones which Blaine describes, the same as the poly mounts. It looks like the tire will clear the hose, the hose sits above the tire but I am planning to likely move the reservoir behind the tower. I’ll go look at your thread to figure out where you put your stuff, I forgot you did coilovers on JK.

The only extra spring for weight measurement I have is a 12” x 150lb. I think that’ll push flat before it takes up the full corner weight (roughly 1000lbs?) Do you have a good guess for the base spring I can order? I have 14 x 250 as bottom spring up front.

Similar, not the same. They are a bit wider, theoretically can handle a bit more twist of the shock eye and have a wider mount width.

I wanna see the reservoir behind the tower. That will be a neat trick.

Wow.. for $125/set. Time to blow the dust off my CAD computer and design some. Another sendcutsend opportunity.

post 267 is probably the best picture. IIRC, when Chris Wegdant tuned them, I told him they needed a tight 90 degree fitting to clear the tire. I'm not sure what fitting was used.

I thought the same thing but the convenience of 2 day delivery made me go with them. Should be quite easy since SCS does bends now.

I want to do something cool from SCS for this project but haven’t decided what. Maybe the top gusset for tower

I was able to sneak the resi behind the tower, but I have race series 2.0s without DSC clickers. Not sure how much bigger the resi is if at all.
