It's an early form of fader control.. If my memory serves me correctly.

Just confirmed that with my old man...
Allowed you to select either the front or rear speakers.... Old school fader control from what I can remember.
I was trying to find a better picture of the switch & a wiring and explanation since my memory isn't what it used to be..
Used and it ain't cheap!!!

Struck me a little funny when I stopped and looked at how these are parked... Left to right newest to oldest and the color similarities was just too weird not to share.

And even back in the 70s we installed aftermarket radios that had actual stereo sound with 2 or even 4 speakers.

Which has nothing to do with the factory "RR (rear) Speaker" control. The rear speaker was an option in most models of that vintage and that dial is the volume control for just the rear speaker... it didn't actually work like a fade with a 4 speaker system.
The best part is it was a fader on a radio that was mono not stereo . We had that setup in a 65 Impala wagon.
