Fan resistor question

I recently acquired a 2000 Wrangler Safari edition. When i got it, I realized that the heater/AC fan worked on low and high but not medium speed. Having had a 2003 model a few years back that I had to tear the dash apart to replace a leaky evaporator and heater core, I knew that the culprit was the resistor. Now the resistor on the 2003 looked very different from the 2000 when I pulled it out to inspect, but I ordered one. When I saw the price on Quadratec of $110 for the Omix one, I went to Amazon and found one for $12. After I installed it, it worked properly and I was thrilled to have saved $100.

I've done a lot of work on the Jeep and have had the battery in and out several times and thought nothing of it. Today I took the Jeep out for a ride and discovered that yet again the medium speed of the fan isn't working. So the question is, should I chalk it up to cheap Chinese crap on Amazon or is there another possible cause that would burn out the resistor?

thanks

Bob

Ok, now I am totally confused and frustrated. I went ahead and purchased all three components from Quadratec, The blower motor, the resistor, and the dash panel control switch unit.

After disconnecting the battery and replacing all three components the system worked perfectly at all fan speeds. Today, I took the Jeep out for the first time since then and at one point in my trip decided to turn the AC on. What did I find? I find that the fan works on every speed except the second fastest speed which is exactly how it was before I dropped the money to replace all three components. What in the world is going on?

Could be the dash control is getting cooked , Mine did what yours is doing the control was the long term fix.

Could be a flaky connection at the dash switch plugs, or at the resistor connector. Were any of the terminals or connectors burnt when you swapped it all out? Try wiggling connectors when it is in failure mode. Since the other speeds are working we know it's not the connector to the mode switch on the right, it has to be either the fan speed switch connector or the resistor connector.

I'll check that out tomorrow, but nothing looked burnt or shorted out
