Single Axle Trailer Design

I had a chance to hook up and test a few things out. Lights all worked great along with the brakes and break away. The TJ was a bit tricky to load. The wheels just barely fit around the frame rails. The front bumper, skid plate and rear control arm brackets all wanted to hit the rear frame bar and taillights. I had to use some wood scraps and jack up the tongue to get it on. I got it on after a bit of tweaking. It's a little unnerving driving up the ramps and over the tires. Other than that everything seems good.

Wider Jeep axles or less backspacing and more lift. 🙂 Very nice looking trailer.
 
Ive had homes with both treated and untreated doug fir decks. First thing I did when buying my trailer was treat the wood.

Used motor oil works well on trailer decks. We cut it with a little diesel fuel to make it absorb better. Plank ends tend to split unless treated. Deck will be a little aromatic for a bit.

It's always exciting when it's rubber on rubber loading.
Loaded 980 & 988 Cat log loaders over the hardtail low-beds for many years. It's a feeling you never get used to.
Will you have to get your trailer safety inspected for insurance purposes?
Could you also load the Jeep while the trailer is unhitched, reach in the air, back deck on the ground?

The state has an inspection process to get a vin and registration. I need to finish some fenders and mud flaps for that yet. I don't think I have the courage required to load it unhooked. I tried that with my S2000 and an enclosed trailer once. It was eventful.
