New Tool Day

Picked up a couple of power tools. Guess I’ll be going down this road. Hopefully won’t regret it. Mostly have just bought hand tools from HF in the past. Next will be a 1/2” impact for trail work.

I've been pretty interested in the HF battery tools, being kinda cheap myself. My plug-in grinder from there has been a real beast since I bought it.

I have a Hercules compact 1/2" drive impact, 1/4" impact, angle grinder and sawsall, all 20 volt. The 2 impact were a gamble as I got them from their as is shelf for dirt cheap. No issues with any of them.

I hear they are coming out with a 12 volt right angle grinder this coming spring. I'll probably try one of those out if I can get with one of their deals or coupons.

Not a new tool, but planning on getting another tool box with some bigger drawers. Got some of those Ernst magnetic wrench holders. I was a little skeptical about how well the magnets held through the thin drawer liners, but they hold very well. So well that I have to remove wrenches if I want to reposition them. Happy with them and will be ordering some more.

Those are pretty cool. I ended up going with hanging ones. Sometimes I grab them off wall and take with me when I go Jeeping.

I have a couple hanging ones laying around but decided to go with this because I think I can get all of my SAE and metric wrenches into one drawer of the box I plan to get. This is about 1/3 of what I have. I’m going to hold off labeling them until I make sure I have everything where I want it.

I have a dedicated tool bag that I put in the Jeep for trips.

Those look good! I ended up going with the hanging option to free up space in my tool box. I’ve got two roll bags for off roading. Some days I buys see them hanging on the wall and think “why not take them”.

What box are you planning on getting??

I'm up in the air between the HF 56" and 72" box right now.

56" will work but 72" is more better for growth.

Planning on the HF 56”.

I already have an old Craftsman 52” (I think) that is pretty full. If I could find the full width middle drawer that was available when this box was new, I think that’s all I’d need. Should have got one back then. The Craftsman box has been fine but the narrow 22” drawers have limited some things that I can store in there.

The plan is to put all my common hand tools in the HF box and then use the Craftsman box for thinks like taps, dies, measuring tools, consumable items like cutting wheels, sanding discs, etc. Maybe automotive related tools in there too.

Too bad you're not closer. I've got a bunch of HF tools I'm getting rid of, since I switched to Milwaukee!

I have an older box that's probably 42" I may just go with the 56" and use both like you are planning.

But then again the 72" is just begging to come home with me :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I've now acquired a good collection of M12 and M18 tools. Since I'm routinely working on something in the basement, I finally got around to installing a Packout station with organizers for commonly used tools. This is place just outside my utility room and makes it super easy to get to the tools routinely

FWIW, I have the 56" and wish I'd gone bigger. It's completely full and spilled over into a second smaller box.

That's why I keep leaning towards the 72" box. It would hold everything i have with room to grow.

I am going to hold onto my smaller box, and use it for tools that don't get used on a daily/weekly basis.

Smart thinking. At some point I'm going to go with the biggest box they have and consolidate everything. That will have to wait until warmer weather, when I can gut the garage and start over with organizing. At that point I'm also going to purge a bunch of Jeep parts that have accumulated over the years. That day will be a difficult one for me, but needs to be done!

I've never heard anyone complain about having too much storage space. If it's in the budget and you have room why wouldn't you get the bigger one?
