Work from home LJ

50 or so miles in post SYE, driveshafts, gears + at home alignment. Jeep drives decent! It’s still not perfect but doing great so far.

Have a few leaks to fix and then will be ready to beat the crap out of it on some trails!

Next upgrade is a better tow rig…..

Did you find an alignment shop? It seems like you called Perrymans, but obviously you haven't had it done yet.

I didn’t even call them. Got really busy at work and wanted to drive Jeep so did it myself. Hoping to make trip when driving through area to visit wife’s parents in few weeks

I have another thread dedicated to new daily/tow rig but had Jeep on trailer for approx 250 miles yesterday.

Was going to take it out with family today but it’s raining. So it’s staying tucked away in the garage.

Truck/trailer/jeep did great yesterday outside of 9MPG loaded.

Really looking at diesel options for new daily. A huge factor is fitting truck / trailer into gas stations. Not pictured here was the 4 point turn I made to barely slide into this station.

The lady next to me congratulated me on making it into the spot once I parked

A modern diesel won't get much better, but will sure as shit cost a lot more to own. If you're looking at pre DEF trucks, then you'd see better mileage.

Mileage isn’t a huge concern. I expect to pay to play. I just want either 1) more range or 2) to use truck stops with trailer so it’s not such a PITA

My ram in 2 years and 15k miles has cost 50 bucks in parts to own. was cheap used and does the job

What size tank do you have, and have you looked into a larger tank? I have an older Ram 1500 with factory 36 gallon tank, which was optional. I have no issues with range, but it hurts to fill up from empty. :sneaky:

To each their own, but even when I frequently drove bigger trucks with 25-35 foot trailers, I rarely used truck stops. They're so few and far between for regular use the only benefit I found was pump speed.

Have to be around 26 gallons based on what I filled up yesterday.

Good to know about truck stops. I have it in my head it’d be easier to get in and out and hate navigating with trailer in gas stations but that might just be naive.

Something to keep in mind about truck stops is while they are designed to flow larger vehicles, they can also become quite crowded with large vehicles driven by impatient guys on the clock, and you will be the little toy truck in their way. I think your current gas station ideas are likely because you aren't comfortable with the trailer. Am I reading the right? If so, practice and experience will help. I'm very comfortable in larger trucks pulling larger trailers. I've been known to drag 30' trailers through drive-throughs, which always seems to surprise the workers, but that's from many years and miles of experience.

I average a bit over 13 mpg pulling my Jeep to Moab and back.

In order to use fuel discount cards you need a diesel and you need to fill at the big boy pumps.

Here’s a screenshot of the participating truck stops in SC

Regarding DEF, I’ve had to fill mine twice this year and I still have 1400 miles left. I’ve read the newer trucks drink more.

This...100%. Pulling into a regular gas station with a trailer isn't a big deal. I generally try to avoid pulling into places that require me to back up, but if need be, its no biggie. You may just need a bit more practice. If you really want a diesel, though, go for it. I just wouldn't be looking to diesel simply to use truck stop fuel pumps.

That's with a newer DEF truck isn't it? (NVM, I see you mentioned DEF at the bottom) Years ago I had an '04 Dodge 3500 that would average 19-20 unloaded and 15-16 pulling a 8-9K load. F'n government. Use more fuel to "save the environment from burning fuel".

Yep a 21. Unloaded I see above 20 on highway. Don’t really care about MPG so I don’t pay much attention. 700 miles a tank at 55 with a 34 or 36 whatever it is gal tank.

Can get 1250 miles to Moab with 2 fill ups, starting with a full tank pulling a Jeep at 80-85 mph up and over 11,000 ft.

With my 2 mile each way daily commute to work in the winter with remote starts because it’s cold here I average 14-15 city.

I got screwed last night around downtown Charlotte and had to do a 5ish point turn. I definitely need to get better with trailer but around my area most gas stations are tiny.

I tried to avoid but was empty after a day of driving.

Agreed! I started looking at diesels to replace my 2020 Ram. The up front cost, complexity, and expensive issues some people I know have had has changed my mind. The diesels of today may belch less emissions, but the price for doing so is steep.

This is my ongoing internal debate. The car guy in me wants the diesel. But I’m cheap and love throwing $50 of gas in my ram and towing jeep around all day

I would say the Loves down on Sutton Rd is your best local bet (it is always at least 10c cheaper than up on 160 w/ their rewards app) but their smallish lot is a cluster too
