Buddy got too close to the edge going around skiers

Any tips for quieting down the steering wheel squeak?

We turned around after a skier told me the road is closed to motorized vehicles starting 11/15 (yesterday). Oops 😧

Ran up a plow pile to get stuck and try the reverse winch setup. Pulled out super easy.

42 inches of new snow this week! I told the wife I was going for a drive and getting gas. Almost didn't head to the woods after filling up as it was dark, but heck i t was only 5:30 so I figured I'd take a peek and head up the back way just a little bit.

But as I was heading up I ran into a local buddy (JKU on 37s) who said he got to 4-corners but couldn't make the turn off to Siskiyou Summit Rd. Said there was too much snow, too steep, and no one had been up there. He said someone would need chains to make it. I took it as a challenge and he turning around to follow me up.

I still wasn't expecting to get very far as I knew there's be downed trees, so I pulled the valve cores and aired down by eye. Crawled up the turnoff with no problems, and he was able to follow in my tracks. Sweet! Let's see how far we can get! So off we went...

Came across lots of trees in the road. Buddy had an electric chainsaw but had already used up the batteries, so we used my hand saw and a couple axes. Crawled some logs to keep going. Made it all the way to corp camp and played around in the clearing. Internet is out at my house so I'm posting with my phone. I'll upload vids in a day or 2.

Got stuck and pulled cable. Wife called with the "Where the heck are you and who are you with??? You've been gone for 5 hours!!!"

o

JKU got stuck at the same time. And HIS wife called with the same complaint. 2 stuck jeeps:

Figured out why I got stuck. Oops....

Not the easiest tire change! But got it done with the shovel and factory jack. That jack isn't the easiest to use but it worked. Was a pain just getting the socket on the lug nuts with all that snow. And the tire felt like it had 30 pounds of snow in it when we put it back on the carrier!

Called the wife as we headed back but she couldn't yell for long before my phone battery died :ROFLMAO:. Got home just before midnight. It was an epic outing!

Did you take that burled stick home with you? Upright in the left of your pic. Looks like a Douglas fir blocking the road ??

Someone dumped a trailer. Hey @macleanflood, any suggestions?

Contact the Forest Service. If you get any run around let me know and I can ask my contacts for equivalent names down there.

One way or another we're waiting until spring!

I'd be willing to come down and do the asbestos tests and disposal if the FS reimburses us for expenses, per our agreement with the Willamette National Forest.

Reported. Lady I spoke to said they have local contractors set up for cleanup.

No, but I am the one that stuck in in there like that. 12 YO me would have drug that thing around all day casting spells! There were a few pieces like that laying around. I think a woodworker could have made something really neat out of it.

Tried crawling 2 logs. Listen closely and you can hear air leaking from the tire I ended up losing hours later. Couldn't hear it inside the cab. Silent but deadly!
Got stuck, winched myself backwards (reverse winch test #3!). We cut one of the logs with the misery whip and made it over!

Stopped to set up the camera for an action shot. Decided it was too much work so this was the only one! :ROFLMAO:

Last video before my phone died.

Special place. Some say it's a portal and those clouds are caused by cloaked ships. I met a former 38 year military intelligence officer at a conference a few years ago and it came up in conversation that I had driven by Shasta on my way there. He asked me if I saw any funny shaped clouds. I actually had seen one small lenticular cloud floating near the mountain on a clear, blue day. He just smiled and nodded at me.

Beautiful pics (y)

Beautiful trip today! Had to work for it but found the deepest, softest snow I've ever played in! I usually find that going slower works better, but this stuff required some speed. Had an absolute blast, and I'm thoroughly exhausted. Here are a couple pics, I'll post more from work my home internet is terrible right now.

So the lesson is don't air down by eye?

Don't go low if going by eye. And make sure to regularly calibrate your eye gauge!

If you do go low, either by eye or gauge, check frequently during the trip! I did check after airing down, that's how I knew how low it was. But I didn't fill up OR recheck. There was HOURS between the log-crossing burp and final debeading. I totally could have saved it if I bothered to look.

Can anyone recommend a TPMS system that's accurate in low-single digits?

@Sgt Jarhead did you get this fixed? Things looked extremely loose.

Even if your filter housing was properly tight, the hose coupler to the compressor housing is the main thing keeping the tube properly tight and away from the fan and shroud. Are you using a different coupler than what Banks supplied?

For comparison:

You can't see the plastic injection molding ring near the bottom of my intake tube because it's closer to the compressor by about 1" and hidden by the coupler.

This seems like a situation where it's wise to run beadlocks. And, if you aren't willing to commit to that, then you better be on your A-game with re-checking your pressures (and that still may not be enough to prevent an issue).

As you know, messing around in the elements is no joke (and that's part of what makes what you're doing an adventure).

For sure! Beadlocks make a TON of sense!

My plan is to glue the beads to the rims with an appropriate adhesive. I haven't seen any mention of that here, but it's a not-entirely-uncommon practice. Affordable, light weight, DOT legal, and has worked well for some people. Others report failures.

I have a lot of industrial experience with adhesive assembly. I'm going to do some testing and see if I can figure this out.

Not yet, I haven’t figured out just yet on having the filter housing installed onto my Nemesis Fenders. The couplers are from Banks though realized I pushed them both towards the engine bay. This was its first run since installing everything and these are just a few small things I noted I’ll have to fix.
