What's wrong with the cheap China bumpers?

Yeah, if I can ever find a damn job, this is high on my list.
Starting to plan for a mild build on my 2005 X RME. I'm seeing lots of inexpensive bumpers front and rear on FleaBay and Amazon. I have no problem spending on a quality bumper, but I don't do rock-crawling etc so don't want or need a 300lb 3/8" steel rampart. Just want something that's more protective than stock and will support a 8-10K winch.
So questions are:
Are the $500+ front Bumpers 'better' and in what way (I don't have any brands in mind, yet).
And, are the $200 CCP specials junk or just mass-produced cheapness. I'm seeing a lot of sales with good reviews.
Also, I have a preference to support home-grown small business, within reason, so I thought I'd ask the experts.

I've gone thru a few from amazon and they chip fast, the coating is thicker than the metal (and they are still HEAVY), then they rust fast. I bought a cheap ($400) rear bumper for my wifes JKU right before moab, I new better, but did it anyway. She hit it on a ledge, it bent up so bad we couldnt open the rear to get to the fridge. 9 hours on the trifecta w/o snacks...
I paid $217 (no winch plate) on sale. Got the rear one for less. That was almost 8 years ago though.

Stock bumper with a raised winch plate.... it's served me very well for years.
I liked the look, to me it seemed cleaner than those other plates.
That's kind of what I did on the front. I removed all the rubber and plastic and cut mine down as a temporary solution until I found a bumper I wanted. 20 years later, it's still there.

I think I'll just do this, for now, and wait until after suspension, wheels/tires etc to decide since there are soooo many good choices. May even just stay with something like this as it looks great.
I have a NIB Comeup 9.5 winch in the garage that I was planning to put on my FJ60, but I think it will now go on the TJ.
@Murf926 Is that a flat plate or raised ?
When I was looking it gets you up over the sway bar and keeps the winch plate tighter to the body work…less winch sticking out in front. if you go with the flat plate it sits in front of the swaybay so it sits lower but hangs over the front bumper more.
Have fun with it! Make it into your Jeep not someone else's Jeep.

Too bad we have been dismantling our domestic manufacturing over the same 40 years we have shifted to obtaining cheaper overseas goods. Tariffs don't rebuild factories as long as you and I keep paying those new tariffs on the stuff we can't get in the US anymore.
Tariffs may not rebuild factories, but they will help to level the playing field to the point that current American companies building superior products and paying American workers, have a chance to compete with overseas companies using inferior materials and child labor.
It took many years to destroy American industry. It won't be instantly restored in January, but at least the first steps will be taken.
