About:
I've always wanted a Jeep. As a kid it was ogling CJs and old Willys Jeeps and craving the freedom and wind in my hair that came with them. I've owned a few different 4WDs over the years including a 1998 XJ, a 1984 K5 Blazer, and currently a 2007 Xterra but an open top Jeep has never panned out for me.

As my kids have gotten older, they prefer to stay home for my adventures so the constant need to seat 5 has all but gone away. My pickup is usually chosen for family trips thanks to the room and cargo capacity so I recently told my wife that it was time for us to get a Jeep. She didn't even hesitate to say "go for it" and as luck would have it, this popped up on FB 2 days later.

My goal is a formidable DD and wheeler. The story I've always told was a long arm kit and 35s and have a do-anything Jeep so I've got a lot of studying to do to accomplish that.

Slacking on painting them. Been processing down the wood from a maple I had to trim today and cleaning up the kitchen projects.

Tomorrow.

Priorities, Terry, priorities….

🙂

Yeah. The hardest thing about this project is I'm starting over so I don't have a wheeler. I'm spending most of my time wrenching again where the X was a pretty formidable 4x4.

It'll be worth it in the end though.

SpeedoDRD installed. Super easy to install and relatively easy to setup. I highly recommend it.

I like the antislip surface on the tube.its no fun sliding off a muddy slider and banging something 👍

It's from Lowes, in the hardware section. My first set of WKOs on my Xterra, I nearly did a split climbing in after walking through wet grass. Immediately ran and bought some.

I put it on top of my rear bumper too in case I have to climb up on it to deal with the top or reach something.

That’s a great idea.

When I finally get around to sandblasting and painting my cheap armor I'll be adding that for sure

Put the hard top on this evening. Temps supposed to drop into the 50s this week so this will hopefully make that a little more bearable.

I'll put the full doors on tomorrow.

While I was drilling the holes in the frame for the sliders, I drilled drain holes near each LCA mount. Opened them up to 1/2" diameter. I hope that's large enough.

If I need to go bigger, I'll probably weld a large washer around it to help strengthen the area a little.

Looking at installing a transmission temperature gauge in the tray above the radio. Also probably a Ham radio display head.

Does anyone have any recommendations for any braces or changes to make to stabilize it for those?

Added the Toyota H4 6024 conversion today. Just kinda stuffed it all in there for now and will revisit it soon to neaten it up.

The negative terminal for the new harness is too small for my battery terminal so I'll have to swap it out. It's just screwed I to the fender right now. I would like to rework the relay harness as well but I don't know about digging into that just yet.

Guess we'll see how much it improved light output tonight. Next will be relays for the fog lights and upgraded bulbs.

Dropped the LJ off yesterday to have the new oil pan and aFe exhaust system installed. Weird paying someone to do this stuff for me but I need to focus my time on our kitchen remodel.

Any shots of your old xterra? I'm a former xterra offroader too.
