What is the Best way to support 4.0 to do rear main while transmission is out for clutch replacement?

I have my transmission out of my 06’ replacing the clutch and flywheel etc… So I’m wanting to replace my rear main since it’s staring me in the face with it’s dripping 10W-30. What is the best way to support the engine so I can get the pan off? Currently being held up by 2x4 and jack on the oil pan.

wasn’t for sure. Wasn’t wanting to blow the rubber out by the engine tilting back to far on them.

I put a jack just forward of my skid pan and a block of wood... practically right behind my AX-15 bell housing.

And after messing with that enough times on my 97 I added a v band clamp just forward of my cat next to my transfer case so I could drop my wrapped exhaust quickly without removing the skid plate.

Came in handy too...

Redneck solution is to just jam whatever fits between the firewall and the engine block from the top so it doesn't flop backwards. The motor mounts are a hinge, so the engine will just flop until it hits something. A chunk of 2x4 often works

The transmission isn’t there, so the engine mounts are all you need. There isn’t any undue tilting strain. You’re not doing anything by putting a 2x4 under the oil pan. Engine mounts are holding it all up.

Thanks for all the responses got it tackled! Used the 2x4 between the block and firewall for peace of mind. Worked like a charm!

Put 2 long bolts in the back of the engine and a bar across the top of the frame
