Car pics too cool not to share

Thanks for that, buddy! Really curious to see what it has under there...

From what I remember the D71 is the less desirable axle. But further reading says that the 3.07 gears ⚙️ are THE BOMB 💣 as far as strength.

The Dodge diesel forum mentions running a 3200 spring in the pump. It's been years since I've played with the earlier Cummins engines.

Yep. I've read the same things. (y)

Your timing is impeccable, brother. I've been in contact with the seller (twenty minutes ago) asking if he knew what the axle ratio was (he does not), as well as scouring the internet (which we all know is absolutely and completely reliable...) for the information. My '90 has 3.54s in it, and it would appear that the '89 would have either 3.54s, or (gulp) 3.07s. I've read on one site that the 1-ton dually could only be had with 3.07s, and on another site that the 3.07s were rare, and that 3.54s were standard fare. 🤷‍♂️

3.54 is a very common diesel ratio - I'm betting that's what it has. My '87 F-250 had that ratio.

I've always understood it to be the fault of the owners not disengaging the overdrive when hauling heavy loads, like in traffic, and such. Not sure if that's accurate, or not, but there sure are a lot of those transmissions out there that had to be rebuilt far too early.

In the early OD transmission (the 47RE) it was more of an issue. the 48RE added extra clutches to the OD pack as an upgrade. As a matter of fact the rebuild kit for the 47RE and the 48 RE are identical, the OD housings are even interchangeable. The only slight difference is the parking pawl rod and the pawl itself have to match. So a 47 OD housing has to use the rod from a 47 and a 48 has to use one from a 48, but either one will bolt up to the other. All the other internals will interchange.

As the subject of my upcoming 1st-Gen Dodge Cummins purchase is being discussed, I thought I'd share this video. Kind of long (in fact, I have only just started watching it myself), but it shows promise, thus far.
*Man, I've never heard anyone pronounce it like this guy does..."Chryzler"...with a "Z" instead of an "S".

**Alright, I just finished watching it, and I have to say I found it really informative. Lots of it I already knew (like Dodge offering a Mitsubishi diesel in the late '70s. In fact, there was one featured on one of my favorite YouTube channels, "Cold War Motors"). But there was plenty that I didn't know, so it was well worth the watch. (y)

OK while I don't normally watch stuff like this I'll give it a listen just for you.

This one just popped up on Barn Finds. Decent looking truck, but over 200K and an ebay price at $18,600 with another day to go.

They still command a decent price. That one looks clean!

They do. Those and the 2nd Gen. It's still crazy what some of these "old" '80s and 90s trucks are selling for now.

It's kinda funny, at least to me, I have two family members who sold their old trucks right before the market took off. A brother-in-law sold his mid '80s GMC 2500 4x4 that he had bought new, then the square-body-revolution happened like a week later. Then my tight-ass uncle sold a '94 F350 dually that my grandpaw had bought new, and the prices of those just keep climbing. All he can see is lost $. Stuff like that really gets to him. It's really easy to poke that bear.

I was heavy into the "Mopar or No Car" mindset for many years. Eventually, I sold off everything, as I was getting deep into AMC products. Within a year of selling off my Mopar stuff, the market went nuts.

My buddy used to drive his little Rambler American convertible with a Dixie cup tied to the dash, At intersections, if he saw a neighboring car with the driver on their cellphone, he'd pull out that Dixie cup, and start talking into it like he was having a full-on conversation with someone. Older drivers who got the reference would get a kick out of it. The younger ones just had no clue. Your comments pretty regularly remind me of this. ;)
