Jeep broken down, help! - FIXED!

my Jeep won't start after not using him for a couple days. Turn ignition, panel lights up, turn to start (clutch in), nothing happens. No click, no sound at all, headlights don't dim.

Your symptoms mentioned above is what I was trying to explain about the "maybe it's just a malfunctioning clutch switch".

Bypass it first through the fuse box, and when you start the rig, do not depress the clutch. Start it like you start a normal car.

Thank you. I'm not too bright sometimes!

You have two choices:
1.) If you put a fuse and you don't want to use the clutch-switch forever, leave it there. This option, you don't need to fix the clutch switch.
2.) You can also use it up until you replace the switch to buy time. Then only then you remove the fuse for the new switch to work.

My other rig is at Option Mode #1 for years now :dance1:

Excellent. The fuse option is good, because I can try that fix quickly while the Jeep is in the workshop car park.

I went to the workshop today. I tried the fuse option & also the Low-4 option but it would not start. I can see that the workshop has left my car out in the snow with the hood open as when I opened the hood there was snow & ice all over the battery & engine. When I tried to start the car, the engine did not turn, but I think that after over a week in the snow & unused, the battery has suffered. When I turned the key, I had lights on the panel, but the clock radio light dimmed so much that I could hardly see it. I think there is no power to turn the engine, so still don't know for sure whether the fuse worked or not. I will try to go back on Monday & get the garage to use their battery booster while I use the fuse tweak. I think that also I'll aim to get my Jeep back to my place as the garage don't seem to know what they are doing. On Monday, I will also order the ignition activator pin.

Took the bus to the workshop. I tried the fuse clutch bypass with a battery booster, but still no luck. They're getting really pissy with me about the car being there, so I'm getting a recovery back to my place. The Jeep should be back with me tonight or tomorrow some time.

I'm aiming to get a new ignition actuator pin, but also thinking of getting a new ignition barrel at the same time as I have to import the bits form the UK. Is there anything else I should get while I'm placing the order with Jeep UK?

Is that by doing this? If so, I can check that when I get the Jeep back.
  1. Insert the key into the ignition
  2. Turn the ignition On-Off-On-Off-On within 5 seconds
  3. Record the 2-digit DTC as displayed by the flashing MIL

Just make sure you have the correct Security Torx bit to remove the actuator. I think it's a T10, but not sure. Anyone know for sure the size?

Security Torx screws have a raised security pin and require a special bit.

OK, I can see that - I don't have one of those!

I'm just also trying to order the Ignition Actuator pin & having some trouble. I can't find the part number in my parts list & the Jeep dealer is stuck too....!

Any thoughts if I should get an ignition barrel too? The garage thought that the key wasn't turning far enough. I'm not so sure.

Don't know that I've see that problem before. If it will go to the point where all the lights come on and then past that to the momentary start position I would say it's good.
