Problem: Running hot, no leaks, but water tank boiling.
Firestone Service: New thermostat, hose clamp, radiator flush.
Result: Coolant leaking from right engine side.
Service Recheck: "Needs new heater core"

Does this sound right? If so, how much should I expect to pay in NC?

Inside the cab...sure...heater core.

Right engine side sounds like a freeze plug or a head gasket... especially with "running hot" and "boiling."

And by right do they mean passenger or driver side?

Right would mean driver side and I'm pretty sure heater hoses are on the passenger side.

Check the drain tube that comes out of the firewall into the engine bay on the passengers side. It will be just a tube sticking out down below where the heater core hoses attach. It might have an elbow on it too, directing it towards the ground; mine did. That is the drain for the HVAC box. Clear water from condensation of the A/C will drip from there when it’s running. Also, coolant will drip from there if your heater core is leaking. It will have that smell and feel of coolant.

I replaced my own heater core in 2019. I took it to a shop and had the A/C evacuated before hand. I asked them how much they would charge to change the heater core just out of curiosity. He said $800-$850.
