Damn, someone broke the glass in my future XJ purchase???That same nonsense is happening all around downtown Portland as well. I used to love going there for coffee and people watching but now with the homeless situation, the crime, ugly graffiti and just how dirty it is everywhere it's just worth it. The last time I went 2-3mo ago to meet a friend for like an hour or two in the afternoon, and some tweaker broke a rear window glass in my XJ and stole a wool headcapa and a pair of gloves that were there on the rear seat. There was a nearby shop camera that caught who it was, but cops would not do anything about it. The guy just brazenly broke in on the middle of the day. People walking nearby didn't even miss a step. Had to pay out of pocket to get it fixed, ended up using glass from a junkyard vehicle.

I had an interview in Portland when I was home in February. I never cared for Portland, but holy shit it is an absolute disaster now.
Oh, but come on now... we all know the Democrats are doing such a fantastic job at running that city (Portland). I mean people keep voting for them, so...
Maybe they'll really enjoy it once the police are fully defunded![]()

Yep, and I’ve also seen PPD on numerous cases now saying they simply don’t have the resources anymore to handle the influx in crime. So yeah, defunding them really sounds like a good ideaThe mayor came out last month and requested to refund the police by $2 million to address violent crime (small dent in what the city voted to cut). The path Portland is headed is straight down the toilet, and trying to fix it will be like trying to stop government corruption in Mexico (impossible).
That's why we moved to North Idaho from CA 16 years ago. Just couldn't take it any more.Portland sounds like ALL of CA. Our fearless leaders managed to get the felony threshold level raised up high enough that they police no longer respond to vehicle break ins, burglary, shoplifting and similar crimes. Folks on the local pages bitch about it all the time. We had some serious package theft well above the old felony level and they would not even send a cop out to take a report.
Lubegard is one of the few dump in specials that does anything. Like you said, it is a band aid but can buy you time. When I had TC shudder several years ago, I used Lubegard Shudder Fix, which would temporarily eliminate the shudder but It always returned. The more I used it, the shorter it would last until I finally replaced with a rebuilt transmission and new TC. LIke @1515art says, it's a band-aid at best.
We need to get together so I can see if it is the same problem I had or not. My ATS with heavy duty torque converter is still running fine behind the stroker. Didn't you get the warranty? I waved mine as I installed it myself.
My torque converter shudders and rattles like crazy at low rpm under load. It has as long as I can remember, I've learned to live with it. I check my transmission clutch volume index or whatever that thing on the DRB is and it's fine. If it's working I'd ignore the rattle, it isn't a problem.
Ok, back to the original topic of the shudder.
I had put in rebuilt transmission by ATS diesel towards the end of summer 2021. Specifically went with the heavy duty torque converter they offer after talking to them about this problem.
After I put the new transmission in, everything was fine till today. The down shifts are much firmer than any auto trans vehicle I've driven, but I was told this is somewhat typical for what ATS diesel does and I quit worrying about it.
I've been driving my Jeep a lot recently testing a few specific things. This afternoon, on my drive back home from lunch, I started feeling and hearing the same noise/shudder that I described in the original post again. The symptoms are exactly the same and occur under the same exact conditions.
I need to check how many miles I have put on since the the rebuilt trans went in, but my torque converter CANNOT be going bad this soon. Something else is causing this and I have no idea why it wasn't there after the new trans and started happening again. Could this be a PCM issue? Did I put a rebuilt trans for no reason? Only good thing is I have have my original trans since I was able to find a cheap core locally to send to ATS diesel.
Anyone have any ideas?
