Novak Conversions Jeep Wrangler TJ engine mounts

Wildman's TJ is getting a face lift

So I started off just installing the allen head bolts to where they were just getting into the clamping ring.

And I'm glad I did because I found one bolt that was stripped out. Lucky for me I'd bought some already to have as trail spares. I'd also gotten the inserts for the wheels and then install tool.

Then I tighten them down until they were just starting to get snug.

Then it was time to breakout the torque wrench and start torquing them down to 25 lb ft.

About here is where things went to SHIT.....

I went to put air into the tires and kept having leak. I tried every trick I knew and sprayed a TON of soapy water onto the back of the rim. I'd gotten the back bead to pop against the rim but still had a leak. I'd say this is one time hearing aids SUCK because I couldn't figure out what direction the leak was coming from. It sounded like it was coming from the front and back at the same time. Man talk about getting frustrated. This was around 1:45 PM and I spent an HOUR messing around with the tire and rim trying to find the leak. I had a ratchet strap on the tire and everything.

About this time I did the SLAP on the FOREHEAD deal and realized I hadn't looked at the Rapid Air valve stem Jeff had installed on these rims. Sure enough damn think was OPEN and it was my huge air leak. I closed the valve and BOOM the tire started taking air like it should. Now I won't repeat the things I was saying about @NashvilleTJ but I figured he was sitting back having the laugh of the year about this time. I honestly don't know if he'd mentioned that he'd left them open or not since it has been so long since I'd got these rims from him. This was about 2:45 PM and my daughter came out to tell me she was headed to work. So I had to do this.

Not the same but for this old sentimental guy it's close enough.

Not bad. 37.5" tall with 40 PSI pressure in the tire.

Damn but that is SEXY.....

Back around 2 PM I was thinking about mounting a second tire today.. Guess what? I decided that I wasn't gunna.

you need a bit for your cordless drill. i might go nuts twirlin that T bar for 1/2 an hr.

I wouldn't chance it. I'd be worried about striping a bolt or insert. It really didn't take all that long to install all of the bolts.

When I did my Allied beadlocks I used my 3/8" drive impact but they were steel wheels and maybe I was just not as worried then.

I had a nice helper then too.

She did the torquing for me while I was doing other stuff on the Jeep at the time.

Didn’t even think about it, but certainly the last thing I did was to air ‘em down with the monster valves prior to pulling the tire. I’m sure they are all that way.

But man, those things look mean mounted up. Gnarly.

I can test fit some things but still waiting on the R&P from Carl @ Jantz so can't do anything with my rear axle until I get that.
But yes this is a step in the right direction.

Jeff,
For the monster valve stem is there a difference between what is used on your Power Tank and what I would use with my OBA system?
@NashvilleTJ

Either works, but with your york, I’d bet the the Monster valve may be faster. What I always did when airing up was to attach my pressure gauge to the small Schrader, and the air source to the monster valve. That way you can monitor the actual pressure while airing up.

You have that chuck in the link, right?

Damn they sure are proud of that air chuck aren't they? $55 WOW....

I don't know? It must be in one of the boxes I haven't opened yet. I've only opened two so far.

I didn't realize you'd sent it along with the rims. DAMN Thank You a LOT.
There should be a bag attached to one of the wheels with that chuck, a spare valve or two, and a bunch of spare o-rings as well.

By the way, make sure you keep the o-rings lubricated with a silicon based o-ring lube. You may remember what happened to me when I once used petroleum jelly on them. Not a good result...

Yes I think I remember reading about that. I will make sure to use the correct o-ring lube... Damn that doesn't sound right. :ROFLMAO:

Just got off the phone with UPS and it seems my last tire took the long way here. It's suppose to arrive Monday. Fingers crossed.

Oh, and either sprinkle water or listen close for tiny air leaks.View attachment 295826

I'd guess my question would have to be "Are they really worth it based on all the quirks they seem to have?" But that's just me.
I can spend an extra 3-4 minute airing up my tires to be honest. Sure I'm stoked to try them out since they are already installed on my rims but I don't know that I would buy them myself.

They are worth it. Just takes a little “getting to know you” time. My TJ can sit for months and hold 30lbs. It’s when the music is loud and your in a hurry. Lol. The valves close before the bottom. Seems like running them to the bottom is right at the leak point
