I'm (maybe was) re-gearing from 3.73 to 4.10 - I was given the 4.10's out of a (year unknown) TJ YJ with the same Dana 30/Dana 35 setup. If I had to purchase everything, I would have stepped up to 4.88, but for free (just needed bearing kits) (and I enjoy working on her) I could get a little bump in a lazy weekend. Didn't see the removal, but the guy that did it didn't mention anything unusual - my neighbor, good guy, owns his own truck/farm equipment repair business, not a rookie (OK).
Pressed the new inner on, but the bearing surface for the old (3.73) was 1.1875" and the new (4.10) was 1.125". My other-buddy mechanic that was guiding me said that was unusual - they should be the same and I would need to look for a Timken with matching specs to the new pinion shaft, and my case.
I've searched here, didn't see anyone with this issue. But Shirley my shaft can't be that out of spec, or am I missing something? Could very well be, I am not certified in any type of differential re-anythinging...
Thanks
Edit: OK, so it wasn't a TJ, the donor was a YJ. He was just ATFU on his memory. Is this doable?
Edit again - Can @Chris delete this? Turns out it's reverse cut, should have known nothing ever free is good...
