Hey All!

I am completing a swap of putting a 2005 TJ frame under my 1998 Tj and I have a question about what fluid to use for power steering wise? I have a 1998 pump but a 2005 steering box. I started to put regular power steering fluid in as the reservoir stated but realized I might have had to use ATF+4. I haven't run the jeep yet after putting the regular power steering fluid in so whats the best way to swap the fluid if needed to ATF +4?

Thanks!

Why are you trying to give the guys at autozone a stroke?

haha yeah they get quite confused when I come in for different years for parts for the same jeep lol. I wasnt sure if the change of fluid kind is for the pump or the box.....

For your power steering fluid, you're correct that the 2005 TJ steering box typically requires ATF+4, while the 1998 power steering pump usually runs on regular power steering fluid.

I'm thinking you may want to swap the 98 pump out for a 05 pump. I don't know the ramifications of running a pump that takes one kind of fluid and a steering box that runs another kind.

I run my 97 pump on ATF 4 zero issues.

Hydraulic fluid is more or less just that.

Okay I think ill take the power steering fluid out then that I accidentally put in. Anyone have a quick method to do that other than getting under there to pull then lines off the steering box?

Fluid extractor if you got one, but it might still leave some residual.
