Ok guys, me and my buddies (3 jeeps total) use basic walkie talkies to communicate. Recently, any radio that I try either has no sound from them or they can't hear me. Any ideas where to start? I don't think anything has changed recently, it used to work. And yes, they all have good battery and are on the same channel

The last one I tried was a cobra PX650, I'm pretty sure. And they can hear each other.

Check to make sure you didn't accidentally turn on a privacy code. Even on the same channel, the radio will not output anything it receives without the code.

sounds to me like a TPL/DCS setting issue. like @GATORB8 said. ya'll are still on the same frequency, but your radio is ignoring your buddies because they are not transmitting the correct sub-audible tone to "wake-up" your radio. these tones can be great for mitigating noise on channel, but it should be noted that everyone else can still hear you if they are running without TPL/DCS - just you cant hear them.

if the radios have a receive icon or light - you can check for this pretty easily. if you have light on and now audio. its either TPL/DCS or the speaker itself.

other option is your radio could have drifted frequency. this is harder to test without a station monitor, but you may find channel 2 in one radio = channel 3 or even channel 15 in the other.

I agree , make sure the " privacy" code is turned off .
As previously stated all the privacy code does is make it to where you don't hear everything on that channel , but everyone can still hear you provided they don't have the "privacy" code turned on on their radio. It's not really privacy because anybody monitoring the frequency will hear you .

I don't use the privacy codes . I like to know when someone else is close by . Someone could hear you and be calling for help. The range on those radios is very short .

Thanks guys. I'm gonna try and test these suggestions later today. Will report back
