Tom Woods driveshaft maintenance gone wrong?

So I’ve read the instructions on greasing the rear driveshaft on Tom Woods website. Greased the U-joints no problem. I greased the zerk on the dust cap of the shaft and grease is supposed to come out the other end. Well grease isn’t coming out the other end and I pumped a decent amount of grease into the zerk and I just noticed that it’s causing the dust cap to separate and making a gap from the rest of the shaft body (see pics below). What’s the issue here? Did I cause possible damage to the shaft? Is there anything I can do to alleviate the excess grease? Why isn’t the grease purging out the other end?
