I'll be looking to replace the cheap SL rated tires that came on my new Ford Ranger 4x4. When I got my Jeep tires I made sure to get C rated tires as per recommendations here and they've worked out very well.
Looking at availability and specs for the Ranger I am finding a lot of selection in the XL range, and a few in the C range. Plenty in the E range. I'm on the fence between XL and C. The C rated tires are heavy at about 50 lbs each, the XLs average 40 lbs. The cheap SLs on it now are 31 lbs each.
The truck will see mostly highway. Off road will be all weather forest service roads and sandy beaches. There might be the occasional rocky terrain but no "Jeep trails". Don't expect to be towing heavy or hauling heavy, just a fiberglass topper. Payload is only 1,400 lbs with a GVWR around 6,000 lbs. What do you think?
