Hi everyone!
I’m Japanese, and I rely on machine translation to read and write English.

I’m originally from Yamaguchi Prefecture on Honshu, the main island of Japan, but since 2013 I’ve been living in Okinawa, one of Japan’s southern islands.
My hobby is insect collecting, and my life’s work is contributing to the faunistic study of beetles in the Ryukyu Islands, as well as supporting taxonomic research by providing specimens to professional researchers.

While Japan’s mainland has a temperate climate, Okinawa and the rest of the Ryukyu Islands are subtropical.
The northern part of Okinawa island, called Yambaru, is a humid forest region rich in endemic species.
Its unique biodiversity is so highly valued that it has been designated as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site.
Incidentally, the U.S. Jungle Warfare Training Center, Camp Gonsalves, is also located in Yambaru—so perhaps some of you here might be familiar with the area!

I recently acquired a 2005 TJ Sport.
I plan to use it to support my insect field surveys in the Yambaru forests!

The previous owner seems to have mostly driven it in town, so the overall condition is quite good.
Its mileage at the time of purchase was about 70,000 kilometers (around 43,000 miles).
It has tube bumpers front and rear, and there are eagle emblems on both sides—which I really like.

So far, the only change I’ve made is replacing the tires with GEOLANDAR M/Ts from YOKOHAMA, a Japanese manufacturer.
But from now on, I’d like to gradually customize it to better suit field research in the forests of Yambaru.

I’ve named this TJ “The Second Weevil” (Nidaime Zou-mushi-go in Japanese).
My first car was a Nissan Clipper, which I bought from an entomologist who specializes in weevils (Curculionidae), so I called it “The Weevil.”
Since this TJ is my second car, I decided to continue the name as “The Second Weevil.”

I’m still a beginner when it comes to cars, but I’m looking forward to learning from everyone’s posts and using that knowledge to improve my Second Weevil!
