Morning all, and happy new year!

I've tried to search, but not found anything matching what I'm hearing. For reference, the jeep is a 2005 6-speed manual that the previous owner put a 2 inch lift on.

Two things:

1) Pop pop pop when climbing up an incline at low speed - almost sounds like something is tensioning up and building up to a release (fortunately, that hasn't happened yet). Worse when turning either direction. No sound when descending the same grade.

2) Ping type sound from the rear when stopping completely from city road speeds or accelerating/starting from a complete stop. I know it can be difficult to tell the direction of the sounds sometimes, but it does seem like it is coming more from the passenger side, or at least it is more noticeable from that direction.

The jeep had been sitting for a few years or used sparingly around a farm prior to me getting it, so I'm planning on inspecting the entire suspension when I get some time next week, but any guidance to assist my inspection would be greatly appreciated. Or if either of those issues above are of the "stop driving NOW" variety, that would be good to know too haha.

My guess on #1 would be your axle joints since you say it gets worse turning. Going to have to think on #2 a bit, maybe someone else will have some insight on #2.

Thanks Greg. Just watched a couple, and I think I can manage that. Thanks for the motivation!

Of course! Do your research, but I found the recommendation here is to go with Spicer u joints, and most prefer the sealed versions instead of the greaseable versions which aren't as strong (plus you have to remember to grease them).

Best to check the Unit Hub bearings as well if you are going to change out the Axle U joints up front. When the Unit bearings go bad they can make a popping noise on take off.

Thanks for the rec Tronner. Is there a preferred brand/part number on the forum for the hubs?

I used the Timken ones like Greg suggested earlier this year, No issues so far.

I suggest using the Amazon affiliate link on the forum to find these and the forum will get some money back. This place is such a store knowledge every bit I am sure helps to keep the lights on!

I would recommend against purchasing these critical parts from Amazon. I learned this the hard way despite seeing multiple warnings from others about counterfeit parts on Amazon. When I did my hubs earlier this year, I got sent 2 incorrect hubs from different sellers on Amazon that were not the Timken brand recommended above.
