05 LJ attempting to change plugs and could not get boots to pull free. Have owned the jeep a little over a year. 144k and don't really know when or if they were changed yet. Any ideas?
Just changed mine yesterday. Undo the 4 bolts on the ignition rail and grab and pull it straight out. Pull about 45 degrees from vertical, or in line with the spark plugs
Taking off the 4 bolts are not the problem. The bolts seem to be fused to the ceramic on the plugs. Better to break the rubber boots or break the ceramic portion of the plugs. Before that going to try and slip a wire hanger with a small hook to pull free a little at a time.
Spark plug boot removal pliers are good at this job. The boots can get hot enough to vulcanize to the ceramic on the spark plug. A spark plug boot tool can grab it at the right angle so you can twist the boot enough to break the grip.
