I want to replace my driver's seat tumble mounts with standard seat mounts form the same year TJ (2000) so I can install a Tuffy box. Will the standard brackets change the height of my seat at all?

2000 to 2000 bases will not change the seat height. If you go with the '03+ seat bases, it will lower your seat about 1".

Not sure if you're aware but they make a version for the tumble seats, just not as big.

Yes I saw it but the big one is barely big enough as it is, plus I never use the tumble feature on the driver's seat anyway. Didn't even realize it was a tumble till I checked it one day recently.

I was thinking about doing the same thing.
I've been looking on Ebay for the later model (non-fold) brackets.

The smaller box fits my needs. ;)

The problem I have with putting my CCW in the Tuffy under seat box is that it requires the key to open it. That's like carrying without a round in the chamber. By the time you realize you need it and then get it out, you are screwed.

Oh mine is not always locked ;)

Only when leaving the jeep with the gun in the box do I lock it :)

How? I bought one of them and could only take the key out if it was locked. Do you leave the key in it?

I just finally got to where my jeep is and I just checked and mine will open and close without the key in. In other words I can keep it unlocked and open and close it up tight.

Damn it. Do you have the part number for the one you got?

I looked at my new Tuffy on the workbench and my key only comes out if it's locked. There are a couple of choices, often if you file the tits off the key it will come out in any position, just like a worn ignition key that falls out. The dips in the key are what sets the wafers for unlocking, so it will still work but it will fit looser. They hold the key in the lock because they only fit past the wafers when the wafers can move up and down which they can't in the unlocked position. If you file them down they can fit past the wafers. This may not work if there is/are dips in the key near the end that are higher than the ones closer to the grip and if the lock is fairly tight.

The other option is to replace the lock with a 2 position lock that locks in both directions. It looks like it's just a cabinet lock, I may look at doing that.
Here's an example of a 2 position cabinet lock: https://www.ultimatesecuritydevices...abinet-and-Key-Box-Lock_p_1225.html#gsc.tab=0

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has/had one that the key only came out when it was locked.

IIRC, it comes with the same lock as the (Tuffy) console.
You don't have to lock it.

I used drivers side non tumble brackets on both seats and was able to use the long boxes on both sides and had em keyed alike.the long boxes are much better.
