Howdy, I just purchased my new old 1999 Wrangler TJ about a month ago, and loving it! :) ⛰️

My TJ came with the original factory rear-view mirror, but it was not attached - it had fallen off the windshield. I am re-attaching the mirror to the windshield, but the residue glue that is still on the windshield seems mighty low at about 2-1/4" from the bottom of the rubber windshield seal to the top of the mounting button... I’m trying to find the definitive factory location for the rear view mirror button on the '99 Wrangler Sport.

I conducted a search and did not readily find any specs. Any thoughts or reference material? Anyone have a TJ with the original windshield and original rear-view mirror still attached that could give me a measurement?

Thanks!

Personally mine is pretty damn low too and I've considered cutting it off and regluing it as high as I can put it.

Unless you're doing a numbers matching restoration I'd put it exactly where you want it.

A lot of the taller folks take the mirror off and reinstall it 180 degrees rotated / upside down. This moves the mirror up and allows a better view in front and towards the rear.
This is only for the simple mirror, not the compass mirror.

If you cut and move the attachment piece. Don’t go too far up or you will limit what you can see out the back window.
