Rear differential vent tube missing.. questions

I noticed my rear differential vent tube is missing and I am on long dusty trail of a vacation. Should I worry? I’ll try not to drive through water, but what about dirt and dust??

Maybe wrap some tape around it and pinch it off.
It'll keep the big stuff out, but not airtight enough to build pressure.

Either way change out the diff fluid when you're done. Who knows how long it's been like that and what has gotten inside as far as moisture. And stay out of water in the meantime.
