Alright so I finally got all of my parts I’ve been waiting for and got the jeep in the shop for maintenance and upgrades. And I’m running into problems.
Info: 2001 sport with rubicon axles, rubicon lockers. 4.10
Issues: I’m Installing revolution axle shafts in the rear and when I removed the factory rear axles I found damage to the journal surface where the race fits in the axle tube on both sides from spun bearing races. Then I pulled the rear differential cover and found three chunks of what I’m assuming is part of the spider gears.
Questions:
since the bearing races aren’t a press fit, should I just install replacements or should I use green locktite? I’m assuming since it isn’t a press fit I should just clean and inspect surfaces and install the new ones without locktite.
The chunks of spider gear, should I just reinstall the old axles and hope for the best until I regear?
There’s really nothing I can do right now, I have to drive it. I just don’t want to install the revolution shafts and then grenade the differential and ruin the new shafts.
I’m waiting on revolution 5.38 gear kits to be in stock, so i’m thinking just reinstall the old axle shafts with some rtv on the seals and hope for the best until the regear kits become available.
Any advice is greatly appreciate.
