I started m '05 Wrangler TJ the other day and discovered that the FM portion no longer worked. The CD player and AM work fine. The scan function on FM still locates channels, but no sound. I checked the the antenna connector and there was no corrosion or anything out of the ordinary. The radio unit is a refurbished OEM model and about two years old. Any ideas on how what happened to the FM channel and how to get it back?

Sounds like the audio amplifier circuit stopped functioning,
Doubtful this will work, but try removing the 12V main and memory power from the radio to reset the circuitry.
It may be time to consider finding a electronics repair shop to troubleshoot the circuitry.

There is normal sound levels on AM and the CD player. Is there a separate audio amp just for FM? Boogieman, I still have a 78 RPM hand-crank record player, so eight tracks are pretty advanced for me.

Get a Jensen "Heavy Duty" radio. Available with and without CD player. Used to be available without BT as well, but I don't think they still are. They look good, have big buttons, and work better without the light show most aftermarket units insist on displaying.

Thanks for the tip, Zorba. I'll look into the Jensen. I can add my existing OEM to the pile in the basement.

The one I used was similar, but not identical to the JHD1130 with the built in weather radio. Mine has "SAME" technology which they seem to have dropped, but that's no biggie. Several others here on the forum have used them as well - HD construction, conformal coated circuit boards, etc, etc, blah, blah, blah. Just the thing for a Jeep, esp. if you run topless.

Thanks for the link. I'm sewing new windows in my soft top for the summer. Anything waterproof and heavy is always best.

Actually, upon second look, it looks like that JHD1130 doesn't do USB - which is what I use exclusively for playing my own stuff from a geek stick. The JHD1635BT does have USB, along with BT if you use a PHOOOOOONNE. Oh, and its weather radio has the SAME tech.
