A few years ago, I had to drop my tank for my build. While it was down, I decided to replace the fuel pump because I didn't want to do it twice. Well, that may have been a bad idea. I replaced it with a Delphi since the Bosch assembly was no longer available. I finally got around to testing it today, and as expected, the fuel pressure falls off a cliff the second the engine is shut off. That's been a problem since I replaced the pump I believe.

I kept the OEM Mopar fuel pump thankfully. I also bought a couple of the Bosch pumps (also have an XJ). My question is.....should I just put the OEM fuel pump back in or swap out the new Bosch pump with the OEM pump. What is the average longevity of the OEM unit? My Jeep had about 67K on it when I pulled the pump. If I can get another 40-50K miles on it, I'd just assume put the old assembly right back in. If they typically fail before 100K miles, I'll probably just swap the pump now while it's out. Thanks.

I think it all depends on how many times you want to drop the fuel tank.

Personally I don't think it's difficult so I'm more prone to gamble. I put a cheap Brute Power pump assembly in my 97 and zero issues.

Do you drive with a spare in your rig?

I prefer to gamble by using quality parts and not storing my gauge in the engine bay. Both living on the edge.

If only quality parts were available...

I've still got the Schrader valve on the rail to rest with my good OTC gauge. I just like being able to glance at the rail and know I have fuel pressure.

I think eventually I might get a pressure transducer and run a digital gauge somewhere.

The pump on my 05 went out at 113K in Feb. Fortunately the Bosch was available for my year. I never want to drop my fuel tank again especially on the trail or side of the road big PIA.

I've been running a Delphi fuel pump module for several years now in my 97. This is the first I've heard of a bed delphi unit so you may just have been unlucky. Good to hear the Bosch is working for you though.
