Ok, all.

I was driving my 2005 Jeep Wrangler Sport with the 4 cylinder engine and when I went to take off from a stop ,it went into first and went to shift to second and thought I heard a small clanking noise. When I went to apply gas pedal it just reved up and had not gear. I can start it with no problem with the clutch pedal in and with go into gear but not engage just reves. Up.. please help

Have you checked your transfer case to make sure it's engaged in either 2wd or 4x4?

Yes , also when clutch in pushed in it freely goes into gear

How did you check that the transfercase is engaged ?
Looking at the transfercase shift handle OR did you shift the handle from 2HI to 4HI and back to 2HI ?
IF the answer is the first way; then perform the second way and determine if there is a noticeable engagement OR does the handle just move freely ?
When shifting into 4HI have go under the Jeep and listen for the chain moving inside the transfercase.
I am wondering if the transfercase shift linkage either loosened up and disconnected OR if the chain inside may have come loose.
Either way you will need to climb under the Jeep and inspect the shift linkage attached between the inside transmission well and the transfercase.

Ignore the cable shifter and look at the lever on the side of the transfer case and have someone pull the transfer case lever...you should see similar action with the factory linkage.
