Is my NSG370 clutch plate backwards?

Hey guys, I have a 2006 Wrangler TJ Golden Eagle with the 4.0 and nsg370. I put a new clutch kit in last night and I fear I may have put the friction disc on backwards by mistake. I know which way it is SUPPOSED to go, I just can't remember if that's actually how I put it in. It drives fine, shifts fine. the clutch feels softer than it did before. There was a little rattle that almost sounded like a loose heat shield when in 1st or 2nd and under load. Other than that, everything seems fine. Do I really need to pull the trans again to verify the installation of the clutch plate? Would it be hard to shift or obviously noisy if it was in backwards?

In my experience, you can’t get it backwards because the transmission side is large and won’t sit in the recess of the flywheel properly. So I’m going to say I doubt it, although the 05-06 flywheel is slightly different (I think it’s just timing marks and nothing else). I haven’t used one of them before so maybe it can be flipped around there, but I doubt it. On my older 4.0 the clutch definitely cannot be flipped; it won’t sit flat on the flywheel if it’s backwards.

Most likely you are fine.

I hope you're right! I REALLY don't want to pull it again

Another note, it feels like the shifter is further back than it was before?... like in 2, 4, or 6th the knob is basically over top of the cup holder... as far as I can tell the trans is mated flush to the engine though

Maybe you installed the transmission backwards.

Or you're like me jumping to terrible conclusions every time I fix something.

Then again you're not paranoid if you're right.

Perhaps I'm jumping to conclusions, but there's definitely a rattle and the gear shift was not in that position before. Could it all be okay and just a jeep being a jeep? It could, but it's my daily so I want it right haha

Did you replace the pressure plate? That will affect the feel.
Did you bleed the fluid again? That will affect the feel too.

Fwiw I can't use the front cupholder if I want to access the drink b/c my shifter covers it in the back-gate gears, so you're probably fine.

The Master cylinder on the 05-06 NSG370 and I think some earlier years with the NV3500 is a sealed unit. You do not need to bleed it.
