Hi All,

I have a 97 TJ 4.0 that appears to be leaking oil out of the distributor by the block. This isn't something that I am familiar with. I looked online and it looks like there is a distributor gasket and an o-ring on the shaft. For the life of me, I can't seem to find the correct ones on the internet. Many search results seem to send me to the wrong gasket and I can't find that specific o-ring. Can anyone point me to where these are so I can purchase them? Many thanks!

Is it a non-standard o-ring size? Any chance the harbor freight o-ring kit has what you need?

As far as the gasket, I don't recall it being anything special; You could probably just cut a manila folder to shape.

But also this was my first hit on google:

We really need a resources post that lists the exact sizes or every o-ring on the TJ. I'm fighting to find the right one for the shift detent knob under the 231J.

I'd skip the harbor freight o-rings and get a kit from your local hydraulic shop. Or show them what you need and they'll probably find you something that should work.

I get results like that too, but then I look at the first one and check the fitment - boom, doesn't fit my jeep. The fourth one - as noted by Link - does fit.

I have seen a great TJ bolt size list before and you're right - a list of all the o-ring sizes would be great. I think I'll pull the distributor and take that o-ring into town and see if i can get something that will work. Thanks!

You could always buy a new dizzy and then return it, if you're picking up what I'm putting down.
