I have a 97 Saraha TJ. About 3 weeks ago, I had a shop install a new heater core. They pulled the dash out as per install method. I got it back soon after but havent driven it much with the cold weather and such. I did notice right after I got it back that the lighter wasnt working when I went to charge my phone. It had worked previously. Figured I'd wait for warmer weather to check it out. All fuses are ok, I pulled center bevel out and it was hooked up.

As I was checking around I tried the fog light switch and no fog light. I tried the headlights and they didnt work as well. Side markers and that worked and lail lights lit up as well.

I called the mechanic and have an appointment Tuesday to bring it in for them to check. Any ideas what may be the issue? I am thinking they messed something up when they uninstalled/reinstalled the dash. I hope its minor and if not they cover their mistake.

Thank for any ideas

Check grounds. Under both speaker bezels and one in the driver's kick panel.

I've had my dash out a few times. I personally would never pay anyone to do the job. Lots of things you can fiddle with and clean up while you're in there.

First time mine was out it was like an archeology dig...coins, pens, golf tees. You miss finding out a little of your Jeep's origin story.

I also spent the time to seperate the plastic dash from the metal frame and paint it...mine was starting to rust and enough of it peeks through in places that the flat black makes it so much more pleasant.

Loose or disconnected ground wire may be the issue. Many dash-related grounds are bundled together behind the dash. If one was left disconnected or is loose, it could affect multiple circuits. Look for ground wires near the steering column, behind the center console, and under the dash.

I would also check the fuses.
  • Fuse 15 (40A) (if I am not mistaken) in the Power Distribution Center (PDC) – feeds the headlight switch.
  • Relay in the PDC – swap it with a similar one to test.
  • Interior fuse panel – recheck all fuses with a multimeter, as some may look intact but still be bad.

Just an update on this. We took the Jeep to the mechanic yesterday so they coukd look at it today. Got a call a bit ago it was done. They didn't have a connector (they didnt say which) connected all the way. All works now. No Charge to us which I was going to insist anyway.
