I purchased a 2000 TJ sport 4.0 auto about 6 years ago and sold it. STUPID!! Well i had the privelage of purchasing it back and am wanting to fix it up to be a daily driver and my girls first ride. I'm currently running 32"x11.5"x15 with what looks like a 1.5" to 2" body lift. Everything else looks to bo stock. Confirmed 44 rear, 30 front and i assume the 44came stock. was told there was a mix of 35 and 44 rear axle in the sports. i would like to get rid of the body lift, ive never been a fan of them or at least put on a smaller one. Im looking at 2.5"-3" lift, just unsure what kind? i know some are more stiff than others and im looking for a smoother ride so some help would be greatly appreciated. What other parts need to go along with this size lift? Not looking to break the bank but dont mind splurging a little bit. Also have 3.73 gears, would regearing be a good idea with bigger tires? Any and all suggestions will be considered and greatly appreciated!

Some did come stock with 44's, although I don't know which specific packages had which rear end. Your lift & tires are pretty mild and shouldn't require too much in the way of additional stuff. The most important question is probably "what are you hoping to do with this jeep" and then the guidance will follow.

Most here will advocate a re-gear (depending on your transmission), but my 97 auto came (and is still on 3.55s) running 33's and I don't hate it at all. I would like 4.10 or 4.56 a lot more though. If you're not doing it yourself it's expensive which is why a lot of people just live with it.

It will see pavement 80% of the time, and maybe some occasional trails. Not looking to do any wheeling at this time.

I bought mine 20 years ago with a 2" Old Man Emu lift and 32" tires, also 3.73 gears with a 5 speed manual transmission. I have done a lot of Arizona off-roading (trails + rocks) without any issues.
