Front speaker replacement

I Replaced the sound bar speakers without much problem last week, pretty easy task, just had to remove and fix where the PO tapped into them for a speaker box. That was easy.

The front was a bit more challenging. I removed the old factory speakers and admired the one piece speaker body/ mounting plate design. Of course the speakers I bought to replace them (Sony 4x6) didn't fit the mounting holes. So I decided to grab a piece of .025 alum sheet I had left over from a boat repair and make some mounts I could use. When I finished the first, I decided it was too flimsy and went back to the drinking/thinking table. Then I had a great idea, why not reuse the factory speaker frame.

I cut out the speaker body along the pressed corner with my dremmel, laid down a strip of 3M trim tape (stuff hold everything!) along the cut out and stuck the plastic mount that came with the speakers to it. It held tight so I mounted the speakers to them and installed. Worked like a charm. Just another way to do a job that I have seen several questions about.

Posted a few pics so you can see what I did.

You definitely saved some money. But if you wanted even better sound you should have upgraded to 5.25" preferably enclosed.

I agree as I am upgrading the complete system in my 05 with Sub. New member here, but I've been modifying my whole like. I grabbed a set of pods for dash

SPEAKERLovRug5.25DASH PODSDPE03065 $ 90.00 AMAZON
and a pair of Polk Speakers
SPEAKERPOLK AUDIO5.25COAXDB653 $ 59.00 AMAZON
I have a spreadsheet that I am using to track this upgrade.

I will be completely upgrading from Head Unit, Amp, all speakers, ways to mount and fit to improve sound and function at the best price to maintain factory fit, form and function I could put together at this time based on my experience and that of others. People have done some really slick things. I like to keep the doors and roof off my Jeep and still hear quality sound. I did this to my motorcycle(s) over the years.

If you want to add 6.5" to sound bar I am using motorcycle fairing adapter rings.

SPEAKERJSP5.25-6.5ADAPTER RINGMC-Speaker-HD-6.5 $ 10.00 AMAZON

I like amazon for most because easy, prices are consistent, you can get some equipment rebur'd at a discount, still can return most times, like amps, head units and more. This is a nice way to slowly add upgrades that will allow you to improve sound, not break the bank, and manage the installation upgrades to all components if you chose.

Yea, I agree
You should have shopped at Crutchfield. Plug N Play and everything included free.

100% agree on Crutchfield! Always had good luck with them. When I replace the head unit and decide on a real sound system I'll probably go that route for sure, but for now I can hear tunes at highway speeds. Gotta have road tunes!

I can hear my tunes at highway speeds, with the top off and the wife yapping. Gotta love loud music. ;)
